Psalm 146-150

Today, we finally finish psalms. Praise the LORD.

Psalm 146

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.

The psalmist makes it seems as though the functions of the soul aren't controlled by the human brain. As though he's commanding it to do something against it's will.

2 While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

If it's David, he's happy today.

5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

This psalm doesn't seem to have any "smite my enemies" in it...

9 The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.

Well, there's a little, but not quite as much as before.

Psalm 147

1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

Comely means "nice, good, pretty". So Praising the LORD makes one beautiful.

Well, maybe not everyone.

4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

I wonder, does He call our star "the sun"?

5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

His ability to express himself to bronze age people is rather limited though, otherwise, he could have said "no abortions" and "internet porn is bad" and "electricity is a tool of the devil" but he didn't, or chose not to.

11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

Isn't taking pleasure in the fear of others, pretty much the exact definition of terrorism?

19 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.

20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.

If I remember, he didn't really show his word to Jacob, the first person to actually get rules and commandments from him was many many many generations later.

Psalm 148

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights.

Today is a very "Praise ye the LORD" kind of day.

2 Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.

Here's a list of other things that should praise him: sun, moon, stars, heavens of heavens, waters above the heavens, dragons, deeps, fire, hail, snow, vapours, wind, mountains, hills, fruitful trees, beasts, cattle, creeping things, birds, kings, people, princes, judges, young men, maidens, old men, children.

Psalm 149

Let me guess, "Praise ye the LORD".

1 Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

Have you ever listened to a band that has all their songs sound the same. You kind of like them, but you put their record/tape/cd on and it's like 11 songs long, but it just seems to go on forever, and you swear you've already heard that song, because it sounds just like the one before...

Wait a second, this psalm has a little twist in it...

5 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.

Seems about the same as the last... but hold on.

6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand;

Saints get a sword?

7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;

FRAKKING AWESOME!!

8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

This is the joy of being a saint, I'd imagine, you get to execute the LORD's judgement.

9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

Yes, I just said that. Oh, and Praise ye the LORD.

Psalm 150

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

Praise ye the LORD. This psalm tells you how you should Praise ye the LORD.

Praise him with: trumpets, harps, timbrels, dance, stringed instruments, organs, cymbals and with high pitched cymbals.

6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.6Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Thus ends psalms.

Odd, the way it ends, I'd almost expect it to start with "Praise ye the LORD", however it starts with "Blessed is the man".

So what have we learned today?

1. Praise ye the LORD.

2. We've learned who should be doing that praising.

3. We've learned how those people should be doing that praising.

That's all detailed in the end of the book of Job, in chapter 42.

He was a rancher.

12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

He also had a lot of sex.

13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.

Then, he died.

So, yes, dearest Sister Sue, Job did have a job after all the bad things happened, and he was better at it, than before.
