Here is yet another reason to homeschool your children. "Public schools" (actually union-controlled socialist schools) in some parts of this country actually encourage teenagers to defy Divinely instituted gender roles.

Other schools are more accepting of unconventional gender expression. In September, a freshman girl at Rincon High School in Tucson who identifies as male was nominated for homecoming prince. Last May, a gay male student at a Los Angeles high school was crowned prom queen.

Dress is always code, particularly for teenagers eager to telegraph evolving identities. Each year, schools hope to quell disruption by prohibiting the latest styles that signify a gang affiliation, a sexual act or drug use.

All this is too much for some educators, who say high school should not be a public stage to work out private identity issues. School, they say, is a rigorous academic and social training ground for the world of adults and employment.

“It’s hard enough to get kids to concentrate on an algorithm — even without Jimmy sitting there in lipstick and fake eyelashes,” said Kay Hymowitz, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.

That's exactly it. Students don't have a "right" to "express themselves" through outlandish costumes; they have to bear other students' rights in mind.

And safety is a critical concern. In February 2008, Lawrence King, an eighth-grader from Oxnard, Calif., who occasionally wore high-heeled boots and makeup, was shot to death in class by another student.

I suppose that liberals will want the school system to play the role of politically correct thought police and punish that other student for exercising his freedom of speech to rebuke Lawrence King.

Public school is not a free-speech zone, so I don't understand why the administrators put up with this kind of radical gender-nonsense. Don't they realize that they're confusing the 99% of kids who aren't gay just to make that one fag feel special?

Things were way better in the good old days when I went to school. The teachers and administration of the school didn't bother to get involved in silliness like a dress code or code of conduct. They just lket the kids sort it out for themselves. They simply let the normal students 'straigten out' the freaks and fags. Took no time at all for the problem to be worked out and for the weirdos to start trying to look and act normal. Good stuff, good times.

Exactly. Back in the good old days before limp-wristed liberals started putting crazy ideas in young people's minds, a kid would get the beating of his life if he showed up to school with lipstick on. I can't believe that such perversions are tolerated, even in Los Angeles!

Brother Avatar makes a great point and I wholeheartedly agree with it. We need to stop enabling perversions and let normal social balancing take its course. Instead of constantly trying to manipulate teenagers with buzzwords like "tolerance" and "understanding", we need to let kids be free of adult brainwashing and let them figure out sexuality themselves.

By no means is this an endorsement of these queer kids. If we truly let kids figure out sexuality for themselves, they will rightly persecute and tease those that go astray from social norms. This is a good thing. How can you create a strong, stable society if everyone is a pervert? Conformity and groupthink are actually positive attributes in public schools, since it keeps the rebels and individualists from disrupting the learning process.

What right do we have to tell a kid not to give some other fag student a hard time? Who are we to meddle in with this student's natural reaction to something alien?
