Boingboing: One of the arguments against hate-speech laws is that once the state starts dividing expression into "allowed" and "prohibited," the "prohibited" category tends to grow...
That's not an argument against them, that's the whole point. Hate speech means "speech I hate", and I hear, see and smell things I hate all the time. As I get older the list of things I hate keeps growing, so of course the law should grow with it.
To watch this in action, have a look at France's proposed "hate speech" laws, which require platforms to remove any "hateful content" within 24 hours...expands the definition of "hateful content" to include:
"stigmatizing agricultural activities, breeding or sale of products from agriculture and livestock breeding and inciting acts of intrusion"
I've seen a lot of county music videos in which harlots dance around in wheat fields they were likely trespassing in - clearly "
inciting acts of intrusion" in more ways than one. Can't wait to see those videos banned and the harlots treated like the hate criminals they are.
As for the french factory farms, I'm sure once you've seen one cage crammed with snails and frogs, you seen them all. Or when you've imagined one, anyway.
