How do we know that God is real? -
07-10-2013, 08:33 AM
Simple as that. How are you so sure that God exists?
I understand that the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her that she was going to birth Jesus Christ. I get that. But how is that any different than Muslims believing that the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mohammed? Both can be used as "Evidence."
Essentially, what makes you so sure that you are "right?"

I want you to keep in mind that I am not here to troll you. I simply want to have a rational and reasonable discussion about this.

But how do we know that the Bible is true? This is a serious question. I could write down that we should worship a false God, and try to get people to believe it. And if it becomes a major religion in 2,000 years, it's still not true. So, is the Bible true just because we think it is, or do we have evidence? Again, all I want is a civil discussion. I am not intending to offend you in any way.

Why would God let us have a false Bible? That would make no sense at all.

I suspect that you have an alternative that you would prefer to the Holy Bible. Let me suggest that wasting your life by smoking weed in the morning and living with clouds in your brain is not really an inviting alternative. Nor would I believe that you have found heaven by jamming your nose into some dirty woman's cooter.

No, it's not. You are a total beginner.

The Bible was not written by one person. God has spoken to scores of people. Has He spoken to you, yet? I suspect not, considering your user handle.

The Bible is true because it is true. The entire course of western civilization has been determined by it. I'm sure some space cadet like you would prefer to live on Mars and try to make your own cataclysmic utopia, but the rest of us prefer to live in the real world and accept the gifts that we are given instead of throwing them back like an ungrateful punk.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Right. So how would it be different of I and a group of my friends decided to write a book that said we shoul worship towels? How is that any less true? You choose to blindly base your lives on a book that you have no evidence is true. I don't have a problem with that, but it simply confused me why anybody would do that.

Because you are not God. He tells us all about worshipping other so called 'Gods' other than Him.
Isaiah 43:10
Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
1 John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Exodus 20:3
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
If you'd read your Bible, you'd look less foolish.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

How do you know that the people whom wrote the Bible were visited by God? I could claim the same thing. It isn't true, but I'm sure I could get people to believe it. That's how Mormonism started. Some guy said he was visited by God. How do you know that the Bible is truthful?

Friend, you can 'claim' anything you want. Jesus is with me every day, just as He is with all True Christians™. It is when you God haters have no faith and refuse to acknowledge Him that you feel compelled to question everything.
Why do you think you came here?
Do you really think everything is 'just an accident'?
Do you really think that Christianity would be around for so long if it were just hokum?
Why do you think the Inerrant Word of God has been round for so long, essentially unchanged where as 'science' books change once a year?
What would God have to gain by having His people write a book full of falsehoods and misdirections?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

I'll answe all of your questions.
I came here because of a coincidence. Life happened to generate on Earth. It was very unlikely to happen, but Earth is simply the perfect environment for life to exist on.
Yes. I believe everything is coincidental.
Yes, I do. Judaism has been around way longer than Christianity, and you still refuse to acknowledge it. Age is not a measure of truth.
Science books change so often because people are constantly making new and groundbreaking discoveries. However all basic laws stay the same. We're never going to disprove Gravity because it's already been proven. Not everything changes. The Bible hasn't changed because most people who choose to follow it literally are ignorant and themselves refuse to change everything.
God has nothing to gain, because he isn't real. The Bible is a set of species written by a group of people to try and produce a set of rules that Mankind should follow. There was no Diety involved.

Where do you think does the Old Testament come from, honey?

You should have said that to Copernicus and Einstein.

No, honey - the Bible doesn't change because it was given to us by our Merciful Lord, it is perfect, and therefore doesn't need any change.

You have a weird spelling, which makes your statements hard to read. The Bible is not a species, it's a book. And I don't think that the men who were inspired by God to write the Bible were on a diet.

I apologize for the typos. I am typing on a touchscreen, which causes a lot of auto-correct errors, and I cannot edit my posts in this forum. Also, who said anything about a diet? I said "diety." Which means a supreme being, essentially a God. I said that a god had nothing todo with the creation o the Bible. The men who wrote it simply desired justification for their rules.

Just for the record, it is spelled "deity."
Back to the topic, what's your proof that the Holy Bible was written by men who were not inspired by God?
None.

None.
Look, you can go either way with this. But I personally don't think that there is a god.

Just read the Scripture:
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Jesus has died for your sins, yet you are rejecting Him.
By the way, did you make an introductory thread? I cannot find it.

If you can go either way, then why not go the way that leads to eternal life and not the way that ends in everlasting damnation?
