PUBLIC NOTICE: Garbage Can Message -
10-12-2010, 09:34 PM
Public Notice: Garbage Cans, Jesus Message
In the City of Freehold's on-going effort to form a seemless weld between the secular and the devine, your City is going to make use of the most mundane of objects, the garbage can.
Starting in November, new garbage containers will be issued by the City. Each of the new container will be embossed with a message that I hope meets the approval of all of you. On the mornings you roll your container to the curb, the message will be read by each passing motorist and pedestrian. That message is:
JESUS HATES SINNERS
I believe these attractive containers and the embossed message will serve us all well.
Yours for a beautiful fall season.
Johny Joe Hold, Mayor
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

You think the Mayor could be trying create a situation that would generate some business for Mr Rothstein?

This innovation is quite expensive, I must admitt. One top of the original cost there will need to be regular touching up of the message due to normal wear. But the potential return seems priceless.
If we are able to bring even just a few people to Christ because they have read the message, I feel we will have been repayed many times over.
I've wished for some time we could put various bits of Scripture on the containers but there just is not enough space.

Did I say anything about Mr. Rothstein? No, you're just trying to stir up trouble like you always do.
I just wanted to know how much this was going to cost, and got a typical politician answer.

As I recall, you campaigned on behalf of Hold stein when he ran against My Left Shoe and . . . that other fellow. Having some misgivings?

I did not! I wasn't even living in Freehold at the time of the election. We didn't move here until August 1st.

With ass due respect, I have wonder why anyone would find fault with the message, Jesus Hates Sinners.
Surely everyone agrees with a message that helps people avoid sin.

As long as the stencil is accurate, and it doesn't come out as "Jewish Kosher Deli on Park Street", I'm sure it'll be fine.

Maybe someone could help me figure this out. I sent a note over to LBC to inquire about having one of our fine Pastors dedicate and cut the ribbon for use of the first container. The response eventually came back that no one would be available.
I thought this was such a great idea, but the enthusiasm from others seems a little, shall we say, lacking. I a little at a loss as to what I should do.

Well to be honest, in Freehold, I think you're preaching to the choir. We all know that Jesus hates sin. Anyway, do you want any unsaved trash that gets into our fine city trying to read while they drive? They could hit one of the Pastors vehicles!

You make a good point there, Seth. We are a gated community and it's not easy for new readers to see the containers. The supplier said he could emboss a picture of Jesus also--maybe that would bring about a little more enthusiasm.

A graven image of Jesus on a trash can??
I know what's going on here. You're trying to keep me from coming for the final weekend of the Witch Hunt and the Post-Election Bash, aren't you?
You think that if you keep offending Jesus, by consorting with Christ-killers and blaspheming our my Lord and keeping incompetent police on the street, my Board of Directors will refuse to pay for the trip, don't you?
I'm on to you, Hold stein!

I find myself in agreement with Rev. Rodimer.
I just couldn't bring myself to lifting the "head of Jesus" and pouring all sorts of unspeakable things into him. And then the thought of letting all that stinky, smelly stuff sit in there for a week until the cans are collected just makes be sick.
I could easily see doing the above if the image were of, say, Oslama-bama, but I really wouldn't want to have that nauseating image anywhere around me.
I noted the Mayor's comment about this being a very expensive project and am curious about other outlays in the city budget.
I certainly hope there aren't any other "garbage can-gates" hidden in there.
When was the last audit performed on the city books?

Do you know what is more expensive, Brother?
Removal of all handicapped ramps. He's not just talking about the unsightly things running down the fronts of buildings, but the replacement of EVERY SIDEWALK INTERSECTION.

If Roger's lawsuit is successful, then will come the cost of putting them all back in!
It appears Mayor Hold stein is finding creative ways to loot Freehold's accounts. I wonder about his relation to the contractor ripping out every single City sidewalk intersection and replacing the ADA ramps -- many of which appeared to be new -- with six-inch curb.
