If I were building near a volcano, the house would be as far away as possible. Sicilians by contrast
get right in there. The scenic view shows houses & villages & towns as far as the eye can see right
up against the sides presumably hoping for some volcano god magic energy. It's true the spurting
apex is not populated but the amount of lava and rocks and granite (in smoke form, heavy enough
to smite whole cities when it falls down) is immense. You don't need to know how a volcano works
once you've seen one to know you don't want to be in the vicinity when it blows up.

I have no doubt the curse of Ham afflicts Sicilians not only with savage superstitions ready for priests
and cardinals to cash in on, but with a cavalier attitude to building regulations no sane person would
