Bible Day 344: 1 Timothy 4-6 - 11-29-2016, 06:06 AM

Chapter 4

In this chapter Paul continues with the "do's and don'ts" of True Christians™.

Beware of false prophets who speak lies (1 Tim 4:1-2) and who tell you that marrying and eating certain meats is bad (1 Tim 4:3). This is false, because all creatures are good, and all meals are sanctified by thanksgiving prayer (1 Tim 4:4-5). This is what all True Christian™ preachers should teach (1 Tim 4:6).

Beware of old women's chatter:

1 Timothy 4:
7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

Spiritual exercise is better than going to the gym:

1 Timothy 4:8-9
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

Those who teach in the name of God suffer persecution (1 Tim 4:10), but these are things we have to teach (1 Tim 4:11): do not despise the youth (1 Tim 4:12); read, study, and follow the Scripture:

1 Timothy 4:
13-16
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Chapter 5

The commandments continue, mainly relating to the treatment of old people.

Do not rebuke the elderly (1 Tim 5:1); treat women with respect, no funny business (1 Tim 5:2-3). Orphans should be thought piety in their homes (1 Tim 5:4), and a good widow is one that has a miserable life devoid of any pleasures:

1 Timothy 5:5-6
5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

A True Christian™ has to be blameless, and if he cannot provide for his own family then he's a loser worse than an infidel (1 Tim 5:7-8). Old widows can serve the church, but only if they've led a perfect life (1 Tim 5:9-10). The young women cannot do that (1 Tim 5:11-13) and here we have an explicit prohibition of young women being celibate (such as the Catholic nuns), basically because they cannot keep their legs together anyway, so it's better to have them marry than fornicate (1 Tim 5:14-15). The families of the widows should take care of them instead of burdening the church (1 Tim 5:16). The elders' word should always be respected (1 Tim 5:17-18). If you want to accuse an elder of something, better have two or three witnesses to support the accusation (1 Tim 5:19).

However, rebuke sinners at all times:

1 Timothy 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

Follow all commandments - there's no such a thing like a half-virgin, and there's no such thing as a half-Christian:

1 Timothy 5:21-22
21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.

Also, do not drink water; it's unsafe. Wine is a much better choice:

1 Timothy 5: 23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

There are some sins that are out in the open (1 Tim 5:24), but also there are some good deeds that cannot be hidden (1 Tim 5:25), so don't be shy, True Christians™! Let your perfectness shine!

Chapter 6

This chapter continues with even more commandments.

Slavery is good, especially if the slaves belong to a True Christian™ owner:

1 Timothy 6:1-2
1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

Anyone who says slavery is bad is wrong and tries to corrupt your mind (1 Tim 6:3-5).

A True Christian™ slave should be contempt (1 Tim 6:6), because we come to this world with nothing and we die with nothing as well (1 Tim 6:7), so slaves should be happy that they receive food and shelter and not ask for anything else (1 Tim 6:8). Slaves have it easy; it's the rich who will have the problem of temptation (1 Tim 6:9-10). However, a true believer will have no trouble rejecting temptations (1 Tim 6:11-12).

Keep Jesus' commandments (1 Tim 6:13), because the Word of God is perfect:

1 Timothy 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

God is great (1 Tim 6:15-16).

As True Christians™ we have to make sure that the rich tithe charitably (1 Tim 6:17-19).

Science is bad - stay away from it:

1 Timothy 6:20-21
20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

The letter ends abruptly, without the usual church business at the end (since it was intended as a private letter to Timothy and not an open letter to a congregation).

Wise words my fellow Christian friend. This reminds me of the time I was taking my 2001 Mitsubishi Montero to get serviced and I noticed that there was a "cross fit" right next to my parking space, I looked inside to see if there was at least a Jesus worshiping station but what I saw inside was was some self worshiping, Hillary following, queers... I was so shocked to see this I picked up my pocket bible and threw it through the nearest window

That's not a very nice way to treat Jesus.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that things which as treated with respect should be handled with care and not thrown around risking their damage?
