Default Day 178. Psalm 116-120 - 09-04-2009, 07:17 PM

Psalm 116-120

Psalm 116

1 I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.

That's not the only reason I love the LORD, but it's a big part of it. I mean, why would I love HIM if he hasn't heard my voice. If he hasn't heard it, then he's not really paying attention, and that's just not the god (note the lower case) for me.

4 Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.

I was in trouble, I probably put myself in that predicament, and our God saved me. HORRAY!

17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.

Oddly, the psalmist earlier (in verse 16) mentioned that he was freed from his bonds. I think many people should try to learn from this psalm. When you are freed from your obligations, it is then that your gifts mean the most. Imagine God as an auto dealer. You go, buy a car, and pay for it (take out a loan). After you have paid off your car, do you continue to pay on the loan? No. Most people write the last check and are happy that they have paid off the car. With God, you should not only pay off the car, but you should send in some additional payments. Is that the kind of True Christian ™ that you are? Do you pay extra, after the loan is paid off?

Psalm 117

1 O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.

2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.

If you want to impress someone by being able to memorize and recite an entire chapter of a book of the Bible (KJV1611) I recommend Psalm 117.

There it is. Did you blink. Two verses.

Psalm 118

1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.

After reading several psalms, you realize that the LORD is good.

2 Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

Additionally, his mercy endureth for ever.

3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

and ever

4 Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

and ever...

Genesis 13:15; Exodus 31:17; 2 Samuel 7:13; 2 Samuel 7:16; 1 Kings 2:45...

18 The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.

God has beaten me, nearly to death, but let me live.

24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

This is the day... this is the day... that the LOOOORRRRDDDDD haaatttthhhh maaadddeeeeeee.

Ah, reminds me of a youngster at Christian Camp. Starting the day out in a circle, singing "this is the day". Ah, good times. And now Sky Lodge is a METHODIST camp!!!

26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.

Oh God, I'm Coming!!!

29 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Tell them what you are gonna tell them, tell them, then tell them what you told them. That's the most effective speech giving practice.

Psalm 119

This one is 176 verses long. Kudos if you memorize it all.

1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

Contrary to new testament thinking, it seems someone can be undefiled.

3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

Ah, INIQUITY, one of my favorite biblical terms. Iniquity is more than just a sin, or an injustice. Iniquity is the love of doing sin. A person who is iniquitous will not ask for forgiveness of their sins, they see nothing wrong with them. Like a person who is gay and claims to be a christian. They don't ask for forgiveness after buttsex. They are breaking God's Laws and are taking pride in it. They are iniquitous. They are hell bound.

10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

I can choose on my own not to wander, but it will help if you, dearest LORD, don't go moving the road while I'm walking on it.

32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

This seems to be a very moving psalm. Wander, run, meanwhile, those against the psalmist (in verse 23) just sit.

37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

Quicken means to make alive, to make moving. Remember back to your army bayonet training, there are 2 types of bayonet, the quick and the dead, what are you? the quick, what are they? the dead. Quick means fast/ alive!

45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

Now, we're walking.

48 My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.

and lifting...

59 I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

60 I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.

and turning our feet and making haste...

62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

and rising...

79 Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies.

If they can find me, because, there's no telling where I'll be from all that moving around.

95 The wicked have waited for me to destroy me: but I will consider thy testimonies.

Once again, we see that we are moving, but the bad people are just sitting and waiting.

105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

God is my flashlight!

110 The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.

I will see their tripwire, thanks to my divine flashlight. Note again, the wicked laid.

118 Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes: for their deceit is falsehood.

Even God is moving around now, doing some trodding.

130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

An entrance is an active thing, in order to use it, you must GO THROUGH. Are you Going through, or are you sitting and waiting?

133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

What an AWESOME verse! God, make me move, don't let me love my sin!

175 Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.

AMEN!

Psalm 120

1 In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.

God has good hearing.

4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

The psalmist is talking about lying. How it is as damaging as arrows. Juniper burns hot, and retains it heat. Imagine a flaming arrow that has a juniper coal attached to it.

So what have we learned today?

1. The LORD's mercy endureth for ever. However long the LORD determines for ever to be, well, that's up to him.

2. Following the LORD is an ACTIVE job. It's not something you do while waiting. You must go out and move your feet. If God comes to you, it's probably not going to be a good thing.

3. God has good hearing.

None of my business of course, but I'd be obliged (not that I could be more obliged) if God might, in His Glory and Wisdom and if it is OK by Him, tread a few more down, as they seem to be becoming numerous. (Amen)
