Default Day 207. Isaiah 19-21 - 10-02-2009, 09:42 PM

Isaiah 19-21

Isaiah 19

1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.

Remember, burden means the Important Message. So far Isaiah 13 was the burden of Babylon. Isaiah 15 was the burden of Moab. Isaiah 17 is the burden of Damascus. Now, we are up to the important message for Egypt.

2 And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

Ok, this is prophecy, so we've got to figure out if this has happened, or will happen. We'll need to look into the end of the Third Intermediate Period to the Late Period of ancient Egypt. The late period ran from 664 to 323 BC. The Third Intermediate Period was from 1070 to 664 BC.

3 And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.

For nearly 1000 years, Egypt was the main world superpower. It wasn't until the rise of Babylon (Assyria) that they were even partly challenged for superiority. When the Persians finally came into power, Egypt, as world leader, was done. Remember, Cyrus hasn't even showed up on anyone's map yet. Persia was just a land west of Babylon, no one was scared of them, it was the Assyrians that you had to worry about. Israel (north and south) at times has had various alliances with everyone in the region.

4 And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.

In 525 BC, the last "true" pharaoh of Egypt was overthrown by Cambysies II, the son of Cyrus.

5 And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.

The Nile is the source of life for Egypt, to have it dried up would mean the end of them.

14 The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.

Just like old times, God goes and messes with people.

17 And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it.

I'm not sure if this has happened yet. But the 6 days war showed how Judah can beat the crap out of Egypt.

18 In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction.

During the 6 day war, Israel took a whole lot of land from Egypt. They went from their borders and took almost all of the Sinai Peninsula to the Suez Canal.

This prophecy was nearly 2000 years early. Most of the other prophecies happened in the next 10 years. This one is still on going.

22 And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal it: and they shall return even to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them.

Now Egypt will make a return.

23 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.

This highway hasn't been built yet, or at least it's got several border checkpoints on the way.

24 In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land:

Remember, Assyria (Babylon) is modern day Iraq. This verse hasn't happened yet.

25 Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.

One day, one fine day, there will be peace in the middle east.

Isaiah 20

1 In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against Ashdod, and took it;

Sargon II was the Assyrian king from 722 to 705 BC.

2 At the same time spake the LORD by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

God said

WE'RE GOING STREAKING!!!

4 So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

Sargon did have a battle with the Egyptians in 707.

Isaiah 21

1 The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

Now we have the burden of the desert of the sea. Unlike starkist tuna, which is the chicken of the sea. The desert of the sea was Babylon, even though we've already had a Babylon burden, in Isaiah 13.

9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

There is a recurring theme here. The place falls, and the graven images get broken. When God takes over, he kills off the other gods. In those times, there were gods for everything, including nationality gods. When you took over a country, you showed your god was the better god. Remember when the Ark was put in front of Dagon in 1 Samuel 5:2-4, Dagon fell off his setting and was bowed down to the real God.

Now we get a couple more burdens;Dumah and Arabia.

Dumah is another name for Edom, their burden isn't very much. Although there really is no Edom anymore, so apparently it was a good one.

The Arabia burden says that the glory of Kedar will fail.

So what have we learned today?

1. Eventually there will be a road from Egypt to Babylon, through Israel.

2. Eventually Egypt, Iraq and Israel will be allies.

3. The smallest burdens result in some serious wiping off the face of the earth.

You can see fluffy bunny Protestants taking verses from the Latin Vulgate when they feel it makes God look like a meanie.

YLT which most closely resembles the KJV.
19:14 Jehovah hath mingled in her midst A spirit of perverseness, And they have caused Egypt to err in all its work, As a drunkard erreth in his vomit.

NIV
19:14The LORD has poured into them a spirit of dizziness; they make Egypt stagger.

Douay Rheims
19:14 The Lord hath mingled in the midst thereof the spirit of giddiness: and they have caused Egypt to err in all its works, as a drunken man staggereth and vomiteth.

Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.
