Default Day 216. Isaiah 46-48 - 10-22-2009, 05:01 PM

Isaiah 46-48

Isaiah 46

1 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast.

Remember yesterday, God was ranting about how all the other gods were just idols and pieces of metal that really weren't gods. He continues with his ranting today.

2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.

Bel is a title of various Babylonian gods. Bel was one of the primary names for Marduk. Nebo (Nabu) was a Babylonian god of wisdom and writing. Remember the Babylonians were captured by Cyrus, God's shepherd.

5 To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?

Here, God is comparing his power to those worthless idols. There really is no comparison between the real God of Israel, who was taken away by the Babylonians, and the fake gods of Babylon, who were taken away by the Persians. The Babylonian gods weren't real, so they couldn't prevent their being taken away; while Jehovah IS real, he just chose to let his people be taken away. See the difference.

9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

Oops, that should be in purple.

9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

Again, the praises of Cyrus are being written. He's pretty much the hero of the deutero-Isaiah section.

Isaiah 47

1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

It seems God has stopped talking. Unless he's referring to himself in the third person. You may ask "Who are the Chaldeans?" The Chaldean Dynasty was the 11th Babylonian series of kings. It lasted from Nabopolassar in 626 BC until Cyrus in 539. (It included Nebuchadnezzar). Did you notice something about those two actual kings of Chaldea? Their names have Nebu/Nabo in them. Their names are in reference to their god that was in Isaiah 46; Nebo. You'll find that in many of the kings names during the time, including the pharaohs of Egypt. Ramses name means "born of the sun god ra". If you take away the RA part of Ramses name you are left with "mses" does that look like anyone's name? Correct, Moses name means "Born of the" take into account that the Real God's name isn't supposed to be written down, and you see that Moses name means "born of the god (who's name isn't to be written". Moses name should actually be Jehovahmses.

3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

Here, the women of Babylon are being told that they will be stripped, and not in a good way, instead of being hot naked chicks, they will be naked showing that they have nothing. That last part of the verse is rather odd. What is meant by "I will not meet thee as a man". Many other "translations" of the bible say things like "no one will be spared" "no one gets off the hook" "no one can escape". But the KJV1611 doesn't really say that. I believe this verse deals with sportsmanship. A real man won't hit a woman. A real man will fight fair. Not meeting as a man, means that God is going to fight dirty. He'll hit a woman, he'll bring a gun to a knife fight, he'll kick the guy when he's down, he'll shoot you in the back. That's how God fights! PRAISE JESUS!!! (Remember, he created evil, so he'd know how to fight dirty).

4 As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

See, either God is talking in the third person, or it's someone else doing the talking.

6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

Well, now he's back in first person. Remember, he gave his people over to the Babylonians, now he doesn't like how they were treated (even though being omnipotent he knew how they were going to be treated), so now he's going to take his revenge on the people who mistreated his people.

9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.

Again, he's talking to the ladies... they will lose their husbands and kids at the same time. So, Cyrus is going to kill the men and the babies, and just leave the ladies. Sounds like the Hebrews when leaving Egypt. Kill all the girls unless they are virgins. Except Cyrus might leave some of the ones who have been with men. Makes you wonder about penis sizes in the area. If you are ashamed of your size, you don't want anyone to know that you are small; if you are well hung, it doesn't matter that a girl has been with anyone before.

11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

I bet it comes from the east.

13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

God is taunting Babylon here, asking their fortune tellers to see what's going to happen. But they are just as fake as their gods.

Isaiah 48

1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.

Wow, that sounds a lot like modern christianity. They swear by the name of the LORD, they talk of God, but they don't really believe it, even if they do kind of believe, they don't believe enough to actually do what they are supposed to do.

6 Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.

God is everywhere, but the people are just to stupid to actually declare that it's God. Just like the banana is proof of God! Stand up and DECLARE IT!!!

9 For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.

It seems that God is still somewhat pissed at them. But he's not going to wipe out the Jews. Pretty much every other race/kingdom/peoples are fine for him to have made extinct, but from 6,000 years ago, how many other religions are still in effect? From 6,000 years ago, how many kingdoms are still around? From 6,000 years ago, how many people can trace their roots? Name someone other than the Jews... go ahead, I'm waiting.

10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

What doesn't kill off all the jews makes them stronger. Funny, God refined them like silver gets refined... he made Jewery (I left off the L).

17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.

God is now showing how great he is, after he refined his people with affliction. Remember, if you didn't survive this time, then you are not the thing that God actually cares about, kind of like Job's children. They were killed to teach a lesson to Job. It's best to be the person taught a lesson, than to be the teaching aid.

20 Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.

God is now letting his refined remnant return back to their home. Praise Jesus!!!

22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.

Uh, what? How does that fit in with anything?

So what have we learned today?

1. There is no peace unto the wicked. (for some reason, we learned that today)

2. God refines his people with torture and death, to get to the ones that really love him. I guess the same is going to happen during the "tribulation".

3. All other gods are just gold and silver; but our invisible, spiritual God is an actual powerful god type thing.
