Default Day 353: James 4-5 - 12-15-2016, 05:04 PM

Chapter 4
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Christianity is the only religion of morality and peace. People do violent and aggressive things because they don’t have Christ in their lives (James 4:1-4).

5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

God is a jealous god, and He doesn’t want to share your affections like some tawdry mistress. Unlike an easy wench, He can make it worth your while to keep Him the most important thing in your life.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Be obedient to God, don’t sin, and watch as He stays by your side through thick and thin, a constant friend, invisible, intangible, inaudible though He may be (James 4:8-10).

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Remember, no judging other brothers in Christ, and whatever happens, do not take tomorrow for granted! You live or die by God’s will, and it’s nothing for Him to snuff you out like a puff of vapor if He wants (James 4:12-17).

Chapter 5
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

All the riches of non Christian men are of no value in the long run, and Christ will make these fat cats sorry they ever made an enemy of Him (James 5:2-6).

7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

Poor and suffering Christians should wait patiently for death. Your time will come after you draw your last breath. Treat your brothers in Christ well because God is watching and He’ll get angry if you mistreat him. If times are hard, suck it up. No one likes a whiner (James 5:8-12).

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Yet another reminder that physical ailments are caused by spiritual realities we cannot see, touch, hear, feel, or explore in any tangible, reliable way other than through faith. Faithful prayer of the Christian man has great power, including that over bodily and mental afflictions. If a dirt-poor, dusty old Jew like Elijah could figure it out, you should have no problems now that it’s been written down for Christians (James 5:16-18).

19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

No one likes a backsliding Christian. Make him shape up and tell him it’s for his own good. Remember, bruises and broken bones heal, a soul burning in hell for all eternity doesn’t.
