As expected, President Bush vetoed legislation Wednesday that would expand a children’s health insurance program, drawing immediate fire from congressional Democrats and setting up an override showdown that could be politically perilous for some Republicans.
The bill Bush vetoed (HR 976) would expand the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP, by $35 billion over the next five years, to $60 billion. That would be enough, Democrats say, to provide health coverage to 10 million children whose families are low-income but not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid — about 4 million more than the program now covers.
Expanding the program has been a major priority for congressional Democrats, who have talked of legislative measures to assist middle-class families stressed by stagnant wages, a deteriorating housing market and rapidly growing health care costs.

Praise Jesus! Now if we can persuade him to repeal that ridiculous "Child Labor Law" we can start putting America back to work! I'm sure that Brother Monty would agree with me on this as well.

Historically, when the citizens of a country refuse to fight for it any longer, the government imports mercenaries....first to fight in their foreign wars and then to control their own citizenry.

With the passage of the Patriot Act, the laws prohibiting the use of US troops against US citizens on US soil have all been revoked, but no one seems to have noticed, so we Christian Republicans are going to have things OUR OWN WAY FROM NOW ON!

That's right; their was a glorious time in our past when 10 year-olds worked in coal mines! Poor children already receive government-assisted health coverage. This legislation was basically to assist middle class children. The Demoncrats wanted the money to come from a 61-cent increase in the cigarette tax. It all rests firmly on the backs of smokers, who are predominantly lower class. So the lower class would be paying the way for the middle class. George Bush, as always, was being compassionate when he vetoed the bill. He was looking out for Deaner and his ilk.

If the prayer, anointing, and confession didn't cure them, then they probably wouldn't have been good soldiers for Jesus to begin with.

I shall be happy to discuss my feelings about it with you as soon as I finish cleaning my firearms, one of which will soon be a Barrett.50 with an effective range of 2,500 meters. Granted, I will probably only get one shot off when they come to confiscate my firearms, but if seventy MILLION Americans get one shot off......suffice it to say that we won't go down like the JOOS at Warsaw or the New Zealanders at Christchurch! People who believe gun control equals crime control can come get my firearms if they choose to ride the greased pole to HELL through an act of suicide. Of course, Christian Republicans are the only ones who know who should and who should not have access to firearms and it seems pretty clear that college students are the worst offenders. We plan to stop the carnage by suspending all education past the eighth grade and reinstating the draft for a minimum of ten years of military service in the Army, Navy, or Air Force. The Marine Corps will remain an elite all volunteer service who will save the day after the messcant and Canuckistani armies fail to defeat the cheese-eating surrender monkeys at the battle of Hastings II.
