Are you an alcoholic? -
06-04-2019, 05:59 PM
I was looking at programs for my uncle Jim to check into since he has been hitting the alcohol rather hard lately. We do our best to pray for him in the hopes that it will stop (which I’m sure it will. What can prayer NOT do?).
In the meantime, the court is ordering him to check into a rehabilitation program and so far the only one we found that is right is Alcoholics Anonymous. Check out this comparison of what happens if the handbook removes all mention of God.
God does have the power to do anything! It makes me want to shout GLORY!

The Bible tells us that wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and he who is deceived thereby is not wise. This is why when I go to bars and minister, I only have "virgin" drinks unless Jesus tells me to have a Long Island Iced Tea to "fit in."
I am concerned about your uncle and promise that I will pray diligently and fervently for his deliverance from the devil's nectar. I would love to lay hands on him if that can be arranged. In the meantime, may the loving Hands of Jesus comfort him and may the angel of the Lord encamp round about him. No matter what, do not give up hope in his healing from this terrible addiction. We must believe in Christ's promises with great steadfastness. Glory!
Proverbs 21:31 KJV 1611:
“The horse is prepared against the day of battell: but safetie is of the Lord.”
Lord, may I serve my equine brothers and sisters just as I do my fellow man. Amen and Amen

Maxine - thank you for this information. I always assumed AA was a venue for drunks to meet up and socialize with other drunks. It's great to see it's all about discipline and willpower. Probably they could all do with attending a few evenings of UA as well.
The namby-pamby liberals in Denver have recently been promoting psilocybin (and probably LSD and MDMA too) to get alcoholics to see the deep cause of their problematic drinking. As if there were some underlying and forgotten trauma that causes people to escape thought patterns that terrorize them and overrun their minds.
Ha ha - NO! It's weak morals. People need discipline and willpower drilled into them with strict routine, rules and fear of punishment. That's what keeps them on the straight and narrow. This all makes perfect sense because a higher power (obviously God) exists who has conveniently provided these things already. So stay off the drugs, kids. And stay off the kids too.

Oh, dear Sister Maxine: I shall remember your beloved Uncle Jim in my prayers this evening. My, we do serve a mighty and powerful , and as He was able to part the sea for Moses, then so shall He provide for your uncle's needs.
Now, then, as to whether or not he attends A.A., well, I suppose that's up to him. A neighbor down the street (Mr. Philips) attended those A.A. meetings. I was interested in his testimonial about what has done for him, seeing as the people at those meetings say they believe in . Well! As it turns out, the "god" they serve is one of those New Age "higher power" mumbo-jumbo thingies -- you know, the stuff they make up as they go along. When I asked Mr. Philip to describe his personal relationship with the , he laughed and said his "higher power" is the flowering crabapple tree in his back garden! So, I do hope and pray that your Uncle Jim will seek the one true, living and give his life to the . That's all that's needed!
A blessed evening to you, dear Sister Maxine.
Sincerely, Isabella W.

I always assumed the “higher power” in AA meetings was God. I wouldn’t personally know though as I’m not an alcoholic and I am positive my Pa isn’t either. He’s too busy going out most nights on his prayer missions. Sometimes they tire him so much he can’t drive home and gets a cab ride. He has what I call “dedication” and doesn’t need no devil’s blood.

Dear Sister Maxine: You are right, but those group meetings do not necessarily mean our beloved of the is their higher power. I think they refer to "God" as a higher power, which they choose to call "God", but it could be anything, really. And that's why Mr. Philips chose the crabapple tree in his garden. He said he knows of nobody who actually follows the in their groups -- they talk about their concept of what "God" might be to them. Every person seems to have a different idea. Anyway, I hope your dear Uncle Jim won't end up there, having to listen to all of their strange ideas. And just because many of those meetings take place in church basements does not mean they are going to Heaven! All Uncle Jim has to do is to put his complete trust in the living as !
A blessed evening to you, dear Sister
Sincerely, Isabella W.

He does praise Jesus thankfully so I think he’ll avoid making the same mistake as your friend Mr Philips. By any chance, did your friend happen to choose to start getting a mental illness? I was reading Brother Cranky’s articles about mental illness being a choice and just wanted to inquire about that. Praising a crabapple tree seems bizarre. It’s also idolatry.

Last Friday night, I was at the Landover Mens Club with a group of other long time Church Elders. We were discussing all the problems Christians face regarding excessive alcohol, abusive families, incest.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Unfortunately my uncle missed his first AA meeting which was supposed to be last night. Thankfully, he was found wondering the highway on the side of the road. He claims to have missed his AA meeting because he was out with the other church males discussing Bible verses. I have to say that this is good though. It means he isn’t at the bar he was caught sleeping in the other week. As to why he was on the side of the highway, the investigation is still ongoing. WHY IS HE IN THE JAIL THOUGH?!?!?!

My, my, my, dear, sweet Maxine, it must be so hard for a young lady when the adult male role models in her life are so flawed.
If you ever just need to talk, you know I am here for you.

Pastor Zeke ordered me to spend several weeks in the wilderness, contemplating my sin.

I’ve learned my lesson back last year when you offered to drive your van over to my house. I was waiting and waiting until my Pa said you weren’t coming due to circumstances I’m not supposed to know about. I asked why and he said “It’s the Christian way”. I have faith and hope that you are doing well. With that said, I am always happy to have more influence from positive role models in my life and would accept your offer if allowed.

And what use would a book that didn't mention God be?
My calculation is that the book with all the garbage about the demon drink ripped out would be far more useful,
A true understanding of God protects against the denizens of Hell and Satan's minions - the demon drink is nothing when compared with them!
Did not our Lord regularly have a bottle of wine? And did He not ascend, undead, to Heaven?
The answer is clear. Get straight with Jesus, not the word of man.

Last night, I was 'hanging out with the boys' playing cards (Go Fish) and during a lull in the games, discussion of this thread came up. We we talking about how not a single True Christian™ man had a drinking problem. We knew a few women that did and of course, everyone knows about the irish catlicks and booze, drunken sots every one of them!
Drunks are a serious problem. Little is more disheartening than to go out at noon and see a dent in your fender and a wad of hair in the head light bezel caused by a drunk the night before. Parking lots need to be more secure to prevent drunk people from falling on personal property.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

Covfefe! FM, you know very well that the code word "wilderness" equals CLEANING MY SEPTIC TANK. My Filipino houseboys are much to delicate and fragile for that kind or work. And I ain't seeing the gold on the inside of the tank yet shine as it did during the days of my late father Lamentations Flint. Just scrub it properly this time and DO NOT USE THE MANSION SHOWER. I'll send a worn-out houseboy later to bring you some light refreshments against a modest 15% increase in your tithes.
Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:
Hypocrites (Matthew 24:51), The Unforgiving (Mark 11:26), Homosexuals (Romans 1:26, 27), Fornicators (Romans 1:29), The Wicked (Romans 1:29), The Covetous (Romans 1:29), The Malicious (Romans 1:29), The Envious (Romans 1:29), Murderers (Romans 1:29), The Deceitful (Romans 1:29), Backbiters (Romans 1:30), Haters of God (Romans 1:30), The Despiteful (Romans 1:30), The Proud (Romans 1:30), Boasters (Romans 1:30), Inventors of evil (Romans 1:30), Disobedient to parents (Romans 1:30), Covenant breakers (Romans 1:31), The Unmerciful (Romans 1:31), The Implacable (Romans 1:31), The Unrighteous (1Corinthians 6:9), Idolaters (1Corinthians 6:9), Adulterers (1Corinthians 6:9), The Effeminate (1Corinthians 6:9), Thieves (1Corinthians 6:10), Drunkards (1Corinthians 6:10), Reviler (1Corinthians 6:10), Extortioners (1Corinthians 6:10), The Fearful (Revelation 21:8), The Unbelieving (Revelation 21:8), The Abominable (Revelation 21:8), Whoremongers (Revelation 21:8), Sorcerers (Revelation 21:8), All Liars (Revelation 21:8)
