Is this an interesting place? -
03-16-2011, 08:17 AM
Hello. I'm a former member of the Church of God The Utterly Indifferent. Even though there was a lot going on there, none of it had anything to do with God because everyone was interested in and busy doing other things. Personally, I was only as interested in God as It was interested in me, and I got so busy with just living that I eventually lost interest in The Church altogether.
I'm not sure how I wound up here or why I registered for yet another activity except that I seem to have a few free minutes on my hands, and you know what they say about idle hands: They give the mind a chance to catch up.
Is it lunchtime yet?
Anyway, I heard about some girl named TamTamPamela who seemed to be pretty happy here, and she was happy for all of her fellows here because of the earthquake. Since earthquakes and tectonic movements and, well, just earth science in general, have always interested me, I figured that I would check this place out to see what I could learn.
Gee, I really am hungry. I'll be back later.
I'll be grateful if someone can tell me then more about the tectonic plate movements that brought so much happiness to folks around here. I mean, that thing had to move /at least/ a few feet in order to register at 8.9! Wow! Boy, would I like to see the seismometer graphs of that event! It's too bad that so many people died, though. There are a lot of very cold, very scared, and very sad people trying to find shelter tonight.

GOD is interested in you! He watches everything you do, and if you don't submit to His Word as recorded in the 1611 King James Bible you will burn in Hell forever. Amen!

This is called a "black out." Please put down the meth pipe and sober up for a few days, then come back here when you have your wits about you.
This is another symptom of your drug use, time has become distorted. I fear it may already be too late for you to turn to GOD.

The earthquakes and other ongoing devastation (Praise God!) affecting Japan are a direct result of their unrighteousness. Even their yellow mayor says the tsunami is divine punishment! If only he and his tiny kinfolk would turn to GOD, their trials and tribulations would stop!

"In Hell"? That's a place? Where in the hell is that? It might be interesting to see.
But I don't understand why anyone would be anywhere because they "deny" God. I mean, it's not like God gives a damn or anything, right? I mean, we're talking about the Creator of the Cosmos, the Spinner of Galaxies, the Soul of Electromagnetic Waves, the Inhaler and Exhaler of Inconceivable Volumes of Vaccum, the Spitter of Fire and Rock, the Trifler with Millenia. What in the hell could insignificant creatures like us do that could possibly interest God, much less offend It?
Well, don't worry about it. I don't much care, really, and I really don't mean to argue with you about it, so I hope that I haven't offended you. It really wasn't my intention. To each his own -- or < ahem!>, in your obviously lovely case, "her" own. Right?
But I am interested learning more about that place you called "Hell". Jeezus, I always thought it was just a mild cuss word. Please! Tell me more!

It's a place where you burn for eternity while Satan and his minions will assrape you continually with their barbed tallywhackers, while you have to listen to Britney Spears records all day and all night.
One could say it is not exactly a very nice place to be.

Wow! Who told you that? I hope it wasn't a teacher or anyone like that. Jeezus, I tell you, sometimes I just get so angry that we've got so many scientifically illiterate teachers teaching crap that I want to tell my Congressman that we should be paying MORE taxes so we can have BETTER teachers!
I do apologize, that I've got to admit that I've never read the Bible. A teacher told me that it had stuff like what you said in it, and I thought, why waste my time? I've got so little time anyway, and there's so much to do!

Well, actually, I quit drinking fifteen years ago, and I've never wasted my time on crack. I have tried a few other consciousness-altering things, but never crack, and that was a long time ago, anyway. It was an interesting experience, I guess, although I wasted a lot of money and time on it. Boy! I sure don't want to do that again!

Well, you could be right. I mean, who knows what some chemicals might do to our brains? I've got to tell you that I do worry about all the junk we're pouring into our air and water that we don't understand. I've been reading a little bit about plastic waste and what we've done with it. Did you know that absolutely everyone on the planet has microscopic pieces of plastic throughout their bodies because we've been so careless with our trash! Yikes!
But why I would want to "turn to God". I really don't mean to suggest that you might be being offensive, but are you suggesting that I should actually waste my time? I sure hope not. I was just getting to know you!
Well, in case no one has ever explained it to you properly (and it sure sounds like you were victimized by bad teaching), I was a victim of a series of accidents that led to my creation, so I figure, why should I waste my time on God, who obviously doesn't give a damn about me. As long as I'm here, I'm going to focus on more interesting stuff.
Ah! The microwave just dinged and my sandwich is ready. I'll get back to the rest of your long -- and obviously thoughtful -- comment later. Okay?

Yeah, you're right. I was just yanking your chain(s). But it's true that I don't really give a damn about God, and that I do consider myself to be a loosely-affiliated member of The Church of God the Utterly Indifferent, which does seem to exist, although not quite in the form that Vonnegut wrote about. It seems that no one has actually been interested enough to organize it into a proper church.
That's a good thing, of course. I wouldn't wish that kind of waste of time on even my worst enemy!

Well, it's too late. Felicity (a very pretty-looking girl, even if she does seem to have some strange ideas) has already "infracted" me for "Insulting God on His favorite forum". But I really can't conceive of how it's possible for anyone to insult God.
And I certainly did not mean to offend you, and I didn't intend to ignore your reply. You appear to want something from me, but I don't know what it is. Could you be more specific?

Hmm. I don't feel miserable... perhaps you're assuming a bit too much about me, but that may be because I haven't told you enough about me. Hopefully, we'll have some time to get to know each other better. I'm actually quite happy, although I do have a nagging curiosity that compells me to learn as much as I can about things. I'm even interested in learning more about God. But you might have difficulty understanding what I mean by that since it seems certain that what you mean by "God" and what I mean by "God" are two completely different things. I'm really not interested in debating the subject, though. How about if I just use the word "Universe" instead of "God". That might make understanding me a bit easier for you.

I'm going to leave you with a couple of Bible verses that I want you to read carefully and really think about before posting again:
( 2 Corinthians 10:5-6) "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled."

He is offering you the ultimate gift, a passage to Heaven. And all you are doing is insulting him and taking the express lane to Hell. I get sick just thinking about you.

Ah! There's part of the problem. You do seem to be assuming some things about me that aren't quite accurate, but I apologize for not telling you more about me before. I'm a 57-year-old man. The nickname "EveningStar" was given to me 20 or so years ago by a girlfriend whose given name was "MorningStar" -- she is Cherokee, and they seem to use pretty names. I've been given other names by Native Americans, such as "White Buffalo", a particularly flattering name that I've never been quite sure that I deserved. But my favorite is "EveningStar". I tacked the "NM" onto the end of it since there are other Eveningstars around, and I wanted to indicate that I live in New Mexico.

Yes, I can tell that you and I probably will not get along well together. Long ago, I decided that I would take offense when someone tries to tell me how I feel when I've told them something different. That decision has worked out well. It's helped me to avoid wasting time.

But seriously, why are you here? You should have noticed that this is a Baptist Church website, not a loopdeloo feelgood NewAge showers optional drum circle.

I'm sorry, did you not read my original post? I explained exactly how I came to be here. Similar to the series of accidents that lead to my creation, I came across this place quite by accident. I was curious about some things that TamTamPamela had said in a YouTube video that I saw on another web site, and... well, here I am! She said that she was happy and that there were other happy people here, and I like being around happy people. And since I've known lots of Baptists in my life (I even lived with a Baptist pastor and his family for six weeks when I was a kid -- delightful people, they were!), I didn't see a reason that I should necessarily stay away.
It's funny, though. I don't seem to be meeting anyone who seems particularly happy. Some say that they are, so I have to take their word for it, but to me they don't look happy in the way that I've ever seen anyone else who was happy. In fact, they look like they're angry and upset. But I could be wrong. My grandfather always looked like he was ready to chew steel, but he was actually a really nice man and loved me very much. We had a lot of fun together!

Well, that's good, because I'm certainly not interested it that!

Start discussing the Bible and God, or go away. Thanks.

To tell you the truth, I'm kind of worried about discussing the Bible and God. One of the things that I read when I first came here is that " This is not a debate forum", and I really don't want to argue about anything, anyway. To tell you the truth, I'm probably completely unqualified to "discuss" the Bible or God. Although I have read the Bible a couple of times (I'm really sorry for lying about that before), it just doesn't make any sense to me. And I've never met two people who can agree on what the term "God" means. Although that's something that could make God an interesting subject, it requires a certain tolerance of others and flexibility of thinking to engage in that kind of conversation. I'm not sure if... well, I've just avoided getting into it here because I don't want to offend anyone, and some folks here seem to be kind of touchy about it.
Well, maybe you're right. This probably isn't the place for me. Heck, with all of those infractions flying around, it might not even be a safe place!
