Even with all the sin around us, there are hopeful signs. Here in Freehold's State of Iowa things are looking up.

Recently two Republican legislators attended a gathering of parents at a public school. The parents were complaining about books their children were reading there. The books had stories about homers, stories that included sex and those about racial equality.

It was so encouraging the legislators pledged right then and there to introduce legislation outlawing reading material they themselves did not approve of. When public schools are subjected to standards of Christian legislators things will finally get better. Praise Jesus.

Of course the liberal rag, Des Moines Register, jumped right in to complain. This Hindu columnist has been complaining for years:

Liberals are always thrusting the hot button issue of the day in our faces. When I hear about lesbian activity (what do they even do? nobody knows) it makes me want to raise the Holy canon and issue some dictates. Just like our Republican senator friends.

I found an extract of the offending book below. I say burn them all, burn it all down. The books, society, everything. It's too much, I can't handle it.

I noticed that on page 172* the guru was a Professor of Comics. It may be that comics (like Roman graffiti†) record aspects of a city's persona otherwise opaque to history. Similarly, when reading Cicero or Edgar Allen Poe, is anyone interested in the floor coverings? Tiles? Carpet? Who cares. And let's be magnanimous here: I'll throw in Cardi B and Emily Dickinson for good measure:

In that example, yes, overuse of hyphens could be referenced by a critic. And the second stanza (our critic could suggest) is pertinent to the topic at hand, especially page 130* in the comic. But what sort of floor covering was there when she wrote that? Who knows? And who cares. Cicero probably was more familiar with mosaic tiles, indeed ancient Roman patterns are reproduced today and remain pleasing, but Persian carpets had been referenced before his time (and are still in production) so he certainly had access to those. Did he use them? Who knows? It's the content of his writing that's most salient just as the content of that poem is what's important from Emily Dickinson.

To her, it goes without saying, floor coverings would be a significant factor. She had to live with them. Some people like bare boards——and some pretty fancy woods are available——while others prefer scrubbed stone or even antique bricks. They do come up rather well but try to buy a scrubbing brush? Half the shops don't even know what a scrubbing brush is.

A SCRUBBING BRUSH

Did Cicero have to deal with this? How could he even write? And what about Emily? Perhaps she had some lovely clunch flooring but could only get one of those plastic things with fake plastic "bristles" and they skim right over irregularities which highlight the character of clunch (when clean) bringing out the green tinge so well at daybreak; she persisted with the thing and then the handle came off. Well. No more writing for her on the paved surface of her study under such overwhelming duress.

If only they read The Bible, all these questions would be answered. Roman graffiti makes it clear that it's not the first time they've been asked. Perhaps that's the real underlying theme for Cicero? Perhaps Cardi B is less concerned with fripperies adorning her person than with expressing her concerns in verse? One thing is clear though. Whatever may be gleaned from a comic has been exactly the same for all people at all times and has nothing to do with Christ.

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Comics are never about peace. They always celebrate conflict. How can a Professor of Comics even suggest answers? Only by reading The Bible can the veracity of God's claims be determined and the likely outcomes for listening to those who quote it selectively be predicted.
