You know it almost seems as though someone went through The Bible listing
- everything defined by God as an abomination
- every action prohibited by God
- every object reviled
- the language proscribed
- any form of clothing not to be worn
and then constructed a religion comprising only those things.

If as they claim they were the original "church" (which they're not because they are an offshoot resulting from a couple of major schisms themselves occurring within a single camp left over from earlier ruptures in an already fragmented creed – but just for the present purpose let's go with their claim) they must have assembled The Bible themselves in the first place. That means they'd need to read it, unless they selected text by lottery or something. In that case they'd see at once what they were doing was wrong. The only alternative is that they were already doing it before the Christian era, had evolved rituals over a few centuries without reference to God and then tried to justify what they were already doing by assigning new meanings to words that no sane person would entertain for 5 minutes. If they read The Bible. Especially if they read it in a language they understood. The penalty for doing that was extreme, from what I've heard. What a bunch of crooks.
