May I ask a question, without starting a firestorm. Why is it that most people who worship Jesus look to the cross? That was the pause in Jesuses journey. Most Christians I've come across look wear a cross or look to it for guidance. Isn't it true that that could be looked at as worshiping a false idol. The cross, not Jesus.Because they're paying homage to a torture device that was in use long before Jesus and the thieves were placed upon it.

At my church, and I believe at Landover as well, nobody wears a cross, and there isn't one in the building. While we recognize that the cross symbolizes God's temporary sacrifice (coming to Earth as a human and being executed in a most humilating manner), we also recognize the risk of idolatry you mention. There is also the risk of focusing on death, like emos and the Catholic Cult do with their crucifixes (idols of the moment of death).

How would a shrine to a rock, which has its own soul, symbolize the passing of human ancestors, whom I assume have souls of their own?

If the rock has a soul, when I split the rock into two pieces, does the larger piece get the soul, or does it now have two souls?

How about when a rock is weathered into sand? Does it then have thousands of little tiny souls, or does the one soul keep track of all the bits of sand as they spread all over the world?

What of igneous rocks, which are made of cooled lava? Did their souls exist before the rocks did, and if so, where were they?

Rocks do not have "souls" They do have personalities, they do not react to the world around them, they’re feeling can not get hurt.They do not go to heaven or hell on Jesus judgment. No rocks are just inert matter. If they are arranged in a pleasing manner we can thank Jesus for that.

1. Tradition and the family: The family is seen as the main mechanism by which traditions are preserved. Their main celebrations relate to birth and marriage.
2. Love of nature: Nature is sacred; to be in contact with nature is to be close to the Gods. Natural objects are worshipped as sacred spirits.
3. Physical cleanliness: Followers of Shinto take baths, wash their hands, and rinse out their mouth often.
4. "Matsuri": The worship and honor given to the Kami and ancestral spirits.

So please stop with the rock worship stuff. I'd really appreciate it.

But as has happened to many other ancient philostipher's* words,

Please read as many translations of the Tao te ching as possible, but don't just pick the one you like....
