Satan has done it again. He has removed and planted evidence to make the world look like one that has not benefited from the Divine Presence of the . Not satisfied with planting fossils to deceive True Christians™, whispering in people's ears, or elevating New Atheism to almost celebrity status, the Devil is popularizing another grand illusion: the idea that Jesus was naught but an ancient urban legend, a myth, not a God/Man cleverly foreshadowed by the false religions inspired by Dionysus or Krishna, or a plethora of other false-gods (for a more comprehensive list of false gods, follow Pastor Bathfire's research here).

This is the basis of the so-called "Christ Myth Theory" (also known as the Jesus myth theory or Jesus mythicism). This lie asserts that Jesus of Nazareth never existed but was invented by the Christian community around 100 CE. The idea was first muttered in the 20th century (before atheism was invented), but really only took off since the invention of internet where so-called "experts" like Richard Carrier, David Fitzgerald, Earl Doherty, and the like could peddle their lies to dozens of gullible fools.

The idea goes something like this:

• The New Testament is of no historical value (no more than, say the Koran is evidence of the Koran being right).

  FACT: The Bible is the inerrant Word of God

  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

These people are so desperate, they've developed a "Jesus Birther Movement" to mock and ridicule True Christians™ who will not be willing dupes of an impostor in the White House.

The latest foolishness has been offered by American Biblical "scholar" Joseph Atwil, who will be appearing before the British public for the first time in London on the 19th of October to present Satan's latest lie: ancient confessions recently uncovered now prove, according to Atwill's feeble imagination, that the New Testament was written by first-century Roman aristocrats and that they fabricated the entire story of Jesus Christ. His presentation will be part of a one-day symposium entitled "Covert Messiah" at Conway Hall in Holborn. The liberal media promotes his conspiracy by suggesting:

So Atwill has decided that Christianity did not really begin as a religion, but a sophisticated government project, a kind of propaganda exercise used to pacify the subjects of the Roman Empire:

"Jewish sects in Palestine at the time, who were waiting for a prophesied warrior Messiah, were a constant source of violent insurrection during the first century," he explains. "When the Romans had exhausted conventional means of quashing rebellion, they switched to psychological warfare. They surmised that the way to stop the spread of zealous Jewish missionary activity was to create a competing belief system. That's when the 'peaceful' Messiah story was invented. Instead of inspiring warfare, this Messiah urged turn-the-other-cheek pacifism and encouraged Jews to 'give onto Caesar' and pay their taxes to Rome."

What's the True Christian™ response to such attacks on our faith? The same as any other attack - stop, drop, and pray.

Stop thinking. God does not approve of rational thinking because He knows our minds are so infinitesimally small compared to His. (Isaiah 55:9)

Drop on your knees and pray. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Pray some more. Pray for faith when rational thinking tries to break through your defenses. Pray when Jesus fills you with that warm feeling that comes only through submission to His Will (Philippians 4:7).

I am in perpetual conversation with throughout the day, asking Him for advice and confiding in Him my innermost thoughts. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is get up and pour two cups of coffee - one for me, one for Him - and have a nice, long chat about my plans for that day and the different ways that I can glorify Him, while my wife gets our boys ready for their lessons. The verse you just quoted really says it all:

1 Corinthians 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

Most of those 500 (yes, that's five hundred) eyewitnesses were still alive when Paul wrote to the congregation in Corinth. St. Paul could not have lied because it would have been easy for the members of the congregation to check with their brethren in Jerusalem.

This is were all these conspiracy nuts come away with theological egg in their faces: If the writers of the New Testament had made it up, people would have called their bluff on the spot.

That's 500 brothers who witnessed the resurrected in His glory. To quote the respected Bart Ehrman, PHD: "If Jesus didn’t exist, you would think his brothers would know about it".

Let's take an even more glorious example:

Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

Matthew 27:51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
Matthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
Matthew 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

1. The sun was eclipsed all over the land for three hours. How could St. Matthew have made this up writing a mere generation after events? People all over the land would have known whether it was true or not.
   
   
2. The veil of the temple was torn from the top to the bottom. Everybody in Jerusalem would have cried foul, if this hadn't happened.
   
   In fact Josephus Flavius mentions the veil several times (Antiquities 3:6:4; 3:7:7: 8:3:3; 14:7:1, War 5:4:4; 6:8:3; 7:5:7), but he never says it wasn't torn. In the end Emperor Vespasian brought the veil to Rome and displayed it in a Pagan temple (War 7:5:7). I'm sure the Romans would have been quick to point it out to Christians in Rome, if they had noticed that the veil wasn't torn.
   
   
3. Many bodies of the saints were resurrected and stayed outside Jerusalem for three days before going into the city where they appeared unto many. If St. Matthew were lying, the citizens of Jerusalem would know it. What happened to these resurrected saints? Who did they visit? What did they tell about the afterlife? Where did they go?

You just can't make this up. People back then would have known it never happened.

I thought I got around quite a bit, but honestly, I didn't know there are large numbers of people who fall for this blatant deception called the "Jesus Myth Theory".
