What makes a "good Christian"? -
08-12-2008, 07:03 PM
Brothers and Sisters -
Many times, we see Unsaved Trash arrive on this Godly forum who claim that we "give good Christians a bad name".
We do this, strangely enough, by: Declaring that Hellbound sodomites should be stoned . . . as God demands.
Supporting the death penalty for witchcraft . . . as God commands.
Encouraging the execution of adulterers . . . per God's Word.
Demanding the conversion or destruction of nonbelievers . . . just like God tells us to.
So, I'd like to ask these people a question:
We believe that being "good Christians" means following ALL of God's Word, not just the happy parts, and not just the bits we find convenient. ALL of it.
What, O Great and Wise Unsaved Trash Who Have Never Read the Bible, do YOU think a "good Christian" is? To whom are we giving the "bad name"?
I look forward to many wilfully ignorant and ill-informed interesting replies and a most useless interesting discussion which will be like talking to brick walls.
If you can support your assertions about what makes a "good Christian" with, say, a quote from the Bible, that might help your case. Just a thought.

I'm honored that my words made you open a topic!
Well, lets start than!
I do believe this will be a very interesting discussion indeed, and I do hope many people participate, so we can make an even better conclusion.
First of all, I am a non-believer, but as I am a human from this world, I too have to interact with Christians, and there are both Christians I love and Christians I dislike.
My interpretation of Christianity is very separate as there are also many kinds of Christians.
There are Christians who believe you will go to hell if you don't EXACTLY do as written in the bible.
There are other Christians who don't believe there is no heaven or hell whatsoever, even though these are rare.
I myself believe a good Christian would not go screaming about.
To me that means he/she would not talk bad to people if they are for example not a Christian.
A good Christian has great feel of morality, no sex before marriage, and not only live to it, but also think to it.
Mind you, thinking about you betraying, IS betraying.
Jesus was a kind person, thus, be a kind person!

These would be True Christians™.

These are part of the "false Christians", which unfortunately are the majority. They run from the extreme you mention here to those who say that parts of the Bible are, according to THEM, "out of date" or "metaphorical".

Would a Christian try to help others avoid Hellfire by any means necessary? We see that as showing True Christian™ love.

Kind? Could you define kind?
Quote:
Revelation 19
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
|
He will return not as a peacemaker, but as the destroyer of nations. He will slay 1/3 of all humanity. The remainder who are not already Saved© will end their days in torture, begging for death, which He shall not permit them to find.
Kind?

In that case, I do am sorry, but than we can't have an agreement.
We have different interpretations of Jesus, and that will be so for ever.
In real life, we might still be friends, but would disagree... or do you have to hate all who aren't "True Christians"?
I will decline such thing to be true as Jesus not standing for the Good.

Let me see if I understand correctly.
You deny what God wrote in His own Word?
You claim that the Bible is false?
You claim that you know better than God who God is?

I deny the Bible is what God wrote in his own word.
I claim the Bible is false.
I claim that people in general have got a bad interpretation of the truth.
I do NOT claim to know THE truth.

Then how do you know what isn't the truth?
Friend, I think I see what the problem is here. Your brain has become so clouded with liberal "thinking" and "intellectualism" that you can't even see the Real Truth when it's staring you in the face. Do you like not having anything to believe in? Do you enjoy that empty feeling inside? Please consider Jesus for your Personal Savior. He will fill you with His Love till you feel you're about to burst! You won't have that empty feeling anymore with Jesus deep inside your heart.

Perhaps that makes me different from you, I do like that empty feeling, it tells me I want to know more, for me thats purpose in life, I'm greedy for more revelations.

What Makes a GOOD Christian...
A good Christian believes every word of the Bible whether they've read it or not!
A good Christian trusts their pastor to deliver the word of the Lord without question!
A good Christian knows that the Lord hasn't been a liberal or a Jew since He rose from the dead.
A good Christian knows that the Democrats are up to no good and unless told by a pastor, should always vote Republican.
A good Christian knows that our Sweet Baby Jesus has blond hair and blue eyes and looks a little like Matthew Mcconaughey.
Jesus - gentle, dependable overnight relief.

A good Christian tries his best to help, and not harm, others.
It is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives. If we find we cannot help others, the least we can do is to desist from harming them.

Pal, you don't know what you're talking about, and neither do I.
A good Christian follows the Holy KJV1611 Bible. All of it. Each and every word. Not just some of them, and certainly not any made-up nonsense that the unsaved tell us they "think" God wants us to do.
Quote:
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.--Luke 19:27

Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:

Does a good Christian help those who are working against God?
God seems to have a different view of that situation:
Quote:
2 John 1:9-11
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Based on these statements, I wonder how you feel yourself qualified to comment on what makes a "good Christian".
There is but one way that we know what God/Jesus intends for us: Reading the Bible. It is objective. It is unchanging. The Holy King James Bible is consistent at all times.
Anything else -- opinions, speculation, "feelings", "personal judgments", and the like -- is human in origin, and therefore subject to outside influences. When we speculate that God is not what the Bible says He is, then we are imagining our very own god instead. That is idolatry.
When we listen to the words of men instead of the Bible, we are listening to an antichrist (such as the Pope) who steers us from God and into his own perverse, feelgood world. We voluntarily place ourselves into slavery to a false god created by power-hungry charlatans (such as the Pope), instead of devoting our lives to servitude to God.
Tell me, if God wanted the Bible to say something other than what it says, why would He not simply change it? He created the entire universe in six days; do you not think Him capable of editing the text in a book?
Is a "good Christian" to you someone who imagines a god that is what he wants God to be, ignores the One True Three-Faced God, and doesn't trouble others with such things as helping them attain Salvation©, that they not spend eternity burning in God's Hell?
