For decades there has been a picture on the wall of the Merchant Marine Academy of Jesus consoling a shipwrecked sailor in a life boat. The picture was put up during World War II when several ships were lost. It is only the size of a medium wall, 10 feet by 19 feet.

Jesus helped these stranded sailors and the painting illustrates this fact.

The official running the Academy heard from 19 students who wanted the picture taken down or covered. She decided to put up a sliding curtain so the painting could be covered when "certain events" took place in the large room. The godless homer Secretary of Transportation could order it always viewable.

A Godly Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate is running on this issue. He will win for certain.

It's bad enough Biden cares so little about Jesus he appointed a homer as Secretary of Transportation. But covering a portrait of Jesus is carrying the point of being Godless too far.

Haha I forgot about that little queer. He probably thinks that by covering Jesus he can cover his own shame and hide his iniquities and misdeeds from the Lord Jesus. Not all sailors are Godly. Whatever they're trusting in evidently doesn't work because so many of them drown. If only they'd Turn To Christ, what a difference there'd be in their lives, especially when they fell overboard or their ship was blown up. The picture does not sound blasphemous. For anyone who can't read or was educated in another language, text is useless and a different mode of communication is called for. Artwork of this kind serves pefectly, much as Hogarth warned against pressgangs (seen operating here in a detail from the larger work, linked)

According to the Marine Corp website: "The 10 foot by 19 foot painting, entitled "Christ on the Water" ... was painted in 1944 by noted marine artist Lt. Hunter Wood, USMS. The painting depicts an image of Jesus and merchant seamen adrift in a lifeboat, presumably after being torpedoed in the Indian Ocean during World War II."

Not bad for modern art, although I prefer sailors who don't get torpedoed and waste Jesus' time with needy hand-holding afterwards. Get over it!

Good sleuthing work, Dr. Toole. Looking at the picture, it is so real it makes me think the artist was actually there and sketched it in real time. We know Jesus walked on water so he could well have been standing in front of the raft giving commands.

Why would Mr. Homosexual Secretary feel the need to cover up this powerful evidence of the real Jesus?

The picture is a large and magnificent work of art with a larger than life (or death) Jesus, sun behind His head and yellowish shade to the sky behind Him, towering over some survivors and, in an expansive gesture, is saying “Well – you've all bought the farm so I’ve come to show you the way to heaven rather than walk on water.”

What could be more welcoming and devoid of all religious connotations? Surely it speaks of nothing other than the fact that people die in wars – and if you are on America’s side, then you go to heaven
