I went and listened to what he had to say. It started off with what I presume is some of his music – or it might have been Cannibal Corpse: difficult to tell. Then he waffled a bit, then in the following short excerpt:
Quote:
IDLEMAN
………aaaand, I'm pretty sure before the wall came down around Jericho or David fought Goliath, he was getting pumped up. Maybe there's war drums or who knows what was going on?
COOPER
………If the volume of the music makes it bad, or something like that, we do have to contend with the walls of Jericho. We do have to contend with this …u …d …o …w …uv …of worshippers being on the front lines of an army. I mean, we weren't there and I suppose they could have been singing quietly, we don't know; but I'm trying to understand why that would be Ha Ha Ha intimidating for an army. You know?

Multiple issues going on there. First,
WAR DRUMS. A quick search reveals that drums are not mentioned in The Bible, which I raise because Cooper quoted Scripture, indirectly for the most part, and the instruments used at Jericho ARE described. He also referenced dancing, again referring to David. This idea that anything may be evaluated according to how it is used cannot be supported within the Christian life. When he danced, David was not carrying on like a drug-addled goth in the mosh pit. Similarly, when Jephthah's daughter danced she was not emulating go-go dancers on a little podium done up in chamois leather. There is no way to use those things for "Good" however you frame it.
Back to the drums. Goliath had a civil conversation with David which would be impossible with any number of entranced drummers
[LEFT] on the go. It's true that David was asked if he'd like his flesh removed from his bones and fed to certain unspecified creatures
[RIGHT] including birds. His reply was to offer an alternative scheme in which he'd retain his flesh intact but remove Goliath's head. Anyone who's ever been in a mosh pit or reggae dungeon will appreciate just how impossible such niceties would be. It's a simple two-body problem.

Entertainment combines sound and visual elements, sometime with a tactile component, drawn from different cultures and societies. Now that the homegrown stuff has gone down the sewer it makes sense to look around for other ways to celebrate Christ, drawing from places where American technology is employed to lift themselves up out of the same sewer. There still remain details OPPOSED to celebrating Christ, which are therefore NOT neutral, needing to be sloughed off but could either of these have a contribution in what you're looking for?
