I had a wonderful opportunity today to witness to my next-door neighbour, who is a Seventh-Day Adventist. He has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and doesn't understand why this is happening to him when he has lived a very healthy lifestyle in accordance with his religious views. He has never smoked and is a vegetarian, and he is only a young man.

For those of you who don't know much about Seventh-Day Adventism, it is a false religion invented by a woman, Ellen White, that observes the Sabbath on Saturday, making it kind of like a fusion between Judaism and Christianity.

I felt that the Lord was giving me an opportunity here toshare with my neighbour, so I brought his attention to Ex 31:14 — "Yee shall keepe the Sabbath therefore: for it is holy vnto you: Euery one that defileth it, shall surely be put to death: for whosoeuer doth any worke therein, that soule shall be cut off from amongst his people." I explained to him that the penalty for breaking the Sabbath is death. I put it to him that perhaps God had given him cancer for breaking the Sabbath.

He became quite angry and told me that he did keep the Sabbath, and that I was the Sabbath-breaker. I told him that no, I was strictly Sabbatarian. I do not work on the Lord's Day or use the internet, unless of course it is to chat on God's favourite forum. He came back with the usual SDA response that my Sabbath is on the wrong day.

This was the moment I had been waiting for. I pointed him to Psalm 118:22-24 — "The stone which the builders refused: is become the head stone of the corner. This is the Lords doing: it is marueilous in our eyes. This is the day which the Lord hath made: we will reioyce, and be glad in it." I told him that this verse was fulfilled with Christ, who was the stone the builders rejected (Acts 4:11). Christ became the head stone of the corner when he rose victorious from the dead on the first day of the week, Sunday. Sunday therefore is the day that the Lord has made. The Old Testament prophesied that the Sabbath would change from Saturday to Sunday.

My neighbour was so shocked by this revelation that he had a heart attack and died on the spot before he had a chance to repent. But I nonetheless thanked God for the opportunity to minister and that I had been prepared in season and out of season.

That was a very kind and thoughtful thing to do for your neighbour, our Lord probably sent him to Hell with the heart attack just as a kind of exclamation mark on your sermon to him. And also as an act of mercy to save him from the cancer.

I don't understand this Saturday Sabbath thing - everyone knows the working week starts on a Monday so our Lord would have started Creation on a Monday. It's not difficult to count on seven days and work out that the Sabbath is a Sunday.

To be honest, I'm going through a personal time of struggle.. I'm Australian, I went to a SDA school and went to a SDA church. My mum, bless her has been the rock.. 3 siblings. Growing up in the big bad world and puberty, coolness, rebellion, yeah judgement too.. I wasn't a bad kid, I kept my morals, yes guilty of peer pressure, done my far share of drink and drugs... I decided to goto England as a holiday visa with my beloved of 10 years.. Un separable, but also diverted from church and god.. Did the typical Aussie travel of Europe, partied etc.. But I broke up.. I've wondered in this place for 3 years being stubborn, naive.. Buried my problems, felt like if I go home I'm a failure. I have a great job good friends but not enough.. Then an old friend came into my life, I think God did this, she's been getting into her church and bible, but she does LDS and kinesiology.. Lovely girl.. Known her since I was 8yrs, yeah I guess love her too.. She's back home in oz.. I've struggled with their beliefs and what she does as a business.. What it did is motivate me to witness to her, I'm guilty of doing it because I have beliefs of SDA. I'm no saint.. We talk about religion and it's hard as we all love to throw bible verses at each other.. I'm rusty, haven't practiced, been to church in years.. But one thing I've recently realised is my life and the way I live.. Smoke drink drugs etc.. But I've felt I need to witness to her.. Dunno why, maybe it's because I do love her.. But as a result it's gotten me closer to God.. My England perfect world I feel is cracking... And decidid to go home last week 6 years here long time... So I've been getting back into my religion SDA on my own accord.. Tonight there was a house party, drinks drugs etc going on, but a friend of mind said no dont want any, I'm guilty of can't say no, yes it's wrong and I'm removing myself from the environment and going home. But what really really smacked me on the face is a good friend who I see socially, didn't partay.. Understandable... Everyone needs to chuck in... Offered some, he's done heaps before, typical night.. But he said he'd been recently baptised and reading his bible, not interested, happy to drink... I was honestly gob smacked.. He said he's been going though bible etc.. I almost felt like crying, I went quiet and then called early night.. I've been honestly struggling with lonelyness since the breakup and buying a ticket home after 6 years has been a battle, I have becom closer to God,, that little voice. "Jono what are you doing"... Tonight when he said this I felt I needed to witness to him.. What do you do??? Google? I googled for an answer.. "Witnessing to someone SDA" but I saw this site.. I just wanna say, where not that bad as you think, we practise on Saturday, as we believe Saturday is the 7th day and Sunday is 1st day of the week.. I'm no saint, but it's what I believe.. You have believe of different scripture, we scrutinise it, like everyone else.. Our beliefs are the bible. Elen g white, we don't take it literal as doctrine, but as examples. we are in fact encouraged to look for our ourselves, research and question, what is true or not.. We don't have official read this only stuff.. I can understand struggle with getting through to an SDA, when one might feel what is truth.. Everything is all referenced to the bible... If you question the pastor or value your welcome To research it, the bible and verses can have many different individual interpret, which is why it's so beautiful.. But it causes so much unjust.. I guess that is sin... But long story short, where not what all those hate sites, cult, conspiracy, false teaching.. I guess we practise on Saturday which makes us different... I was witnessed tonight by a catholic.. It really gave me hope that god works through people.. It gave me something that what I've been doing for the last few months and getting back to my religion, but finding someone out in a very very non Christian environment is amazing and given me much much more.. I dunno energy to leave England and start a new life.. I'm 31 soon, is taken stubbornness, pride and a breakup to get where I am... I've got the best job here, pays well, but I think God is whispering to tell me time to come home... I am honestly taking a leap of faith... Hope you all understand... It's Bit long winded, but point to say is SDA isn't that bad, were not perfect and sin just like you...

It is that bad. The proof is in the pudding, as they say. Or as Jesus said, you can recognize a tree by its fruit (Matthew 7:16). You were raised to believe and respect and live your life according to your SDA beliefs. And what did it get you? What fruit do you see? If your little church was as reliable as you've been led to believe, you wouldn't be here in this predicament, now would you?

Good grief, I don't even know what to say. Can you give me an example of something you feel is not the literal truth in the Bible? I mean, I've only read the thing cover-to-cover about 11 times and for the life of me I can't recall a single thing that seems far-fetched.

SDAs are wrong about a number of things but you picked the one they are spot on about. The verse you quoted has nothing to do with sabbath, totally taken out of context. Sun day is when the pagans worshipped the Sun God and was adopted by the Pope to make pagan conversions smoother.
Jesus said about the Great tribulation,

Mat. 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day

Sabbath, not sun day. I don't know why people are so bent on paganizing the Scripture, why not accept it as is. If you are going to keep sunday you could as well start celebrating Helloween

Where in the Bible does it say that the Sabbath was changed from Saturday (7th day) to Sunday (1st day)??? Only the Catholic Church has an answer for that, and it is not from scripture. The Ten Commandments were written by God's own finger, and predated the Jewish religion. Jesus only did away with the ceremonial law.

The following is taken from Peter Geiermann, C.S.S.R., The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50, 3rd edition, 1957.
“Question - Which is the Sabbath day?
“Answer - Saturday is the Sabbath day.
“Question - Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
“Answer - We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (A.D. 364), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.”

Not only do you have an error regarding the Biblical Sabbath day, but you also have an error regarding the nature of death. Nobody goes to heaven or hell at death. If people went to their reward or punishment at death, then why would there be a need for a resurrection?? The Catholic Church is the originator of these false doctrines and the Protestant world follows along with the same erroneous path. The 7th Day is clearly and undisputedly the Sabbath as per the 4th Commandment, also see Gen 2:1-3. There was not even a Jewish nation at this point in the Bible. Besides, if Sunday was the true Sabbath as mainstream Christianity claims, why don’t they observe it properly? Christians go to church on Sunday, yet they buy and sell, engage in worldly pursuits, attend sporting events, etc. They do not even keep Sunday holy for their Sabbath. We also read in Dan 7:25 "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time." Daniel predicted the change of the Sabbath before the Catholic Church even existed.

On the subject of Death….In death, Jesus himself rested on the Sabbath. He died on the Cross on Friday, rested in the tomb on Saturday, and rose to life on Sunday. When he spoke to the thief on the cross, Jesus said in Luke 23:43 "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."

Jesus himself did not go to paradise on that day. This is obviously an error in punctuation. He gave verbal assurance on that Friday that the thief would go to paradise. We know from reading John 20:17 "King James Bible
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God."

So how could the thief be with Christ in Heaven on the day of Crucifixion if Jesus himself was not in heaven? Jesus was on earth approximately 40 days following his death and resurrection. The Bible mentions some that went to heaven. They were taken in bodily form, not in spirt. Jesus himself arose in full body and form. Body + Breath= Life. Regarding the state of the dead, read Pslam 146:4 "His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish." We read in Ecclesiastes 3:19 “For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other. Yea, they have all one breath, so that man hath no preeminence above a beast, for all is vanity.”

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7.

"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7.
The body turns to dust again, and the spirit goes back to God, who gave it. The spirit of every person who dies--whether righteous or wicked--returns to God at death.

Just for the record, I am a former Catholic who followed Sunday observance and believed in the immortality of the soul, and the supremacy of the Pope. Errors not supported anywhere in the Bible. SDA's have it right.

The acid test for anything doctrinal is the Bible and the Bible alone.
We read in Isaiah 8:20 "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

For if the law is void, then there is no sin. For sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4 "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Most would say, "I am under grace and not under law" Yes, this is true. We are under grace, but that does not make us free to disobey the law. Romans 6: 1-2 "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? verse 2 "God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?"
James 2:17 "Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead"

Obedience is the fruit of our faith. In Matt 7:16 we read, “
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Test all matters of doctrine with the Bible. If it doesn’t match up, then you have it wrong. This is not about who’s religion is superior or not, it is about who is obeying God according to his word, not ours and the tradition of men.

Nobody is calling Jesus a big fat liar as you claim. Just pointing out an error in punctuation from early translators when they translated the scripture from Hebrew/Greek to English, not Jesus. Plus I never said anything about an eternal place in hell for not believing. Just the opposite. I provided scripture to back up the fact that there is no immediate punishment for the wicked and no immediate reward for the good. This is the exact opposite of what you actually read in my post. (2nd Peter 2:9 e Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished) Perhaps if you had read my entire post, instead of claiming to stop reading it by claiming I said "Jesus is a big, fat liar..." you would have got my point.

As for point #2 below, I am not referring to any particular Christain denomination, but regardless if they observe Sunday sacredness or engage in worldly business is really and truly beside the point. The point is there is absolutely no scriptural basis for observing Sunday. It was mentioned above that the work week begins on Monday. So? That is not when the calendar begins. Anyone can go get their calendar and see that Sunday begins the week, which makes Saturday the seventh. Show me from the Bible and the Bible alone where it is commanded to observe Sunday?? By keeping Sunday, you acknowledge the Catholic Church, since they are the one's who claim the change.
