Occasionally when I'm out in the public, a smart mouth will shout to me, "Read Acts 59:43", and then flash me a picture of some homer wearing a tight leather outfit. As all True Christians know, that passage tells us the Peter was in the city of Joppa and stayed some days at the home of Simon the Tanner.
The heckler hints that Peter was a guest of Simon the Tanner while Simon fitted Peter with leather clothing, the tight kind worn by homers today. This is ridiculous. We should not speculate on what Peter and Simon did during those days at Simon's home. In fact, it is a sin to say such a thing.
My thinking is we simply should never use this bit of scripture in public. It leads to speculation that is not helpful.
