Why Are We at Landover Baptist so In Your Face -
03-24-2022, 02:30 PM
I was having coffee at the Freehold Senior Center yesterday when the ever-critical Mrs. Johnson came up to me. She asked why LBC was so arrogant and know-it-all. "Why are you always calling out people's sins? Maybe just a nice invitation to a pot luck would get you more members."
I have to admit Mrs. Johnson gets under my skin once in a while. I pointed out to her the obvious, if people sin they go to hell. Our job is to stop the sin, not invite people to pot lucks.
A just-published article says Christians tend not to tell others about their religious beliefs. The majority prefer to keep quiet about such "personal matters." This is heresy.
In 2 Timothy 4:2 we're told, Preach the Word, be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke.
Church numbers are falling across the U.S. because Christians are not rebuking sinners. We need to up our game.

The cheek of the woman! Really, talk about the pot calling the kettle "a device of color". Has she never read Matthew 7:1-5, or has she just forgotten it?

Absolutely. I do hope, though, that you didn't mention the ladies' regular coffee and cake get-togethers? There is a reason that Mrs Johnson isn't invited.

Sin festers in private and Satan knows this. From the linked article:
Quote:
While Christians by definition are disciples of Jesus who accept and help with the spreading of the Gospel, a majority see their spiritual lives as private which is counterproductive to their mission in society
[T]he idea that faith should be kept private is one part of a bigger swirl of negative conditions that need to be addressed for people to see spiritual growth
|
There it is - undeniable - privacy is counterproductive to their mission in society. I.e. practically doing Satan's work. I'd be strongly in favor of public displays of worship, compulsory if necessary, to get people out in the open declaring their religious loyalty. Penalties and some kind of labeling system could be used to identify those who refuse. The present opt-in system of wearing a lapel pin is not working.
Quote:
“When Jesus discipled the 12, the spiritual and day-today matters of their lives intermingled. Life was not private or compartmentalized. Meals and miracles, frustration and affection, sermons and naps, trials and celebrations — they shared it all,” they added. “Christians should consider what it would mean to do the same today.”
|
I certainly would be OK with putting non-believers together in boarding houses in the hopes they would discover the discipleship we enjoy.

That looks pretty bad. I am pretty sure they would do better on a FSM diet:
And a somewhat better accommodation off course:
Jeremiah 6:21 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
Best wishes for the people in Ukraine.

My question would be whether or not this boarding house would register in limited minds as a deterrent to sin. We know this one does:
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

So, what exactly do people like Mrs. Johnson want us to do? Be Christian behind their backs?
That would be sneaky. And what's the point of being honest and kind and generous and sexually pure if people don't know about it? Forget about keeping things on the DL*. My lack of any sexual outlet is out there for the world to see. And as a moral, True Christian™ Woman, it is my job to make sure that other people are living up to my high standards.
This is about more than avoiding Hell. Jesus has to personally witness all the illicit sex out there. Will no one take His feelings into consideration? Also, stamping out abortion is about more than saving babies' lives. If those women are home tending to those children they were forced lucky enough to bear, there will be fewer women in the workplace and men will finally get a fair shake in the job market.
* DL means "down low" which is an idiomatic expression suggesting secretive or hidden information. (You wouldn't think it to look at me, but I am very hip to current slang.)

Judges 7:2-7
2 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.
3 Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
4 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
5 So he brought down the people unto the water: and the Lord said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.
6 And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.
7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

Words so heartfelt expressed, Sister Handmaiden. Who one this earth would oppose humanitarian efforts - and the Bible (KJV1611) is full of such expressions that they are too numerous to quote.
And what is more humanitarian that saving someone from an eternity in the Lake of Fire?

My goodness gracious! That Mrs. Johnson sounds like she needs to be put in her place, and if she is available this coming Wednesday afternoon, then I know just the group that can handle her: at my McGill Street Ladies' Prayer Meeting, Bible Study and Tea & Social. I can promise that Mrs. Johnson will leave a changed woman after she's had a "chit-chat" from Sister Hortense and Yours Truly.
Surely, she cannot be so thick as to not see that that the only reason we call out the sins of the people is so that the people can recognize the error of their ways, and to repent — IF they care about escaping the horrors of eternal . Or, is she just playing games here?
Revelation 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
Anyway, should you see Mrs. Johnson again, dear Brother Mayor Hold, please ask her to be in touch with me. I can assure you, most wholeheartedly, that we are ready for her — definitely!
