Jesus Hated Fig Trees. We Should Too. -
05-28-2017, 07:44 PM
With summer vacation coming on us, children in Freehold will be playing and snacking as kids do. It is a time when parents can teach their children lessons from the Bible.
In Matthew 21:18-19 we learn Jesus hated fig trees:
Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.
19And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered.
If ever there was a clear message it is this one. Eating figs is a finger in the eye of Jesus. I'm asking Freehold parents to note this and not tempt our precious children with Newton Fig Bars.
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

Brother Mr Mayor, Sir, I have linked to your important post on the Prohibited Foods thread in the Ladies' section of the forums. I hope I did right?
I think the fact that figs even still exist is suspicious.

Unless Jesus was referring only to that single tree, which I suppose is just possible, then the continued presence of this squelchy fruit on God's Earth must be the work of Satan.

If you knew exactly what goes on inside of a developing fig, you wouldn't care to eat one even if you didn't believe in Jesus. (Hint: sex and violence everywhere.)

I believe Jesus expects us to use Monsanto Roundup (glyphosate) to take care of any remaining fig trees still around.

To be on the safe side we should cut down ALL trees. That would make hunting a lot easier. I never really saw the point of trees anyway. It was after all a tree that got us kicked out of paradise (Genesis 3:23).

To most "Christians" The Bible is like a license agreement. They just scroll to the bottom and click "I agree". All those "Christians" will burn in Hell!

A new group have taken up the anti fig tree cause. Maybe Landover Baptist could buy some of these signs:
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

Caution and carefulness has always been my rule. I have to admit the historical record about the dead fig tree is hard to understand.
But, when the stakes are Huge, like they are for eternity, no rational person should take risks. For that reason alone, figs should be off the table in every Christian household.

The fig is a long lived tree, but one with shallow roots and very susceptible to the peculiarities of it's surroundings. Thus, it requires a safe space to grow. It has large, loud, showy leaves, but they are easily shredded in a strong wind. It is very delicate and requires exactly the right amount of water or it will die. The wood of the fig tree is soft and has no known use. The fruit of the fig starts out hard and resistant to damage and assault by insects, but it ripens to soft mush and has no defense against those predators who would eat it.
It seems to me that the fig has become the perfect symbol of the wretched and unsaved youth who now infest our universities. We call these youth "snowflakes", "sissies", "airheads" and worse. Should we not refer to them as figs?

I'm no word etymologist, but I think what we're looking at here is "figgot", and "figgotry".

The similarity of the language you have used here, Brothers, is quite ironic.
To my unsophisticated ear, your words sound very similar to those we use when referring to homers. The reason it is ironic is because of the fig tree itself. It had the qualities necessary to reproduce but it did not.
Jesus saw the similarity between the fig tree and homers and smote to the tree. His message to us was, "Get rid of that which does not carry out its reason for being. That include homers."
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.
