Weird Extra Books In My KJV

    Brothers and Sisters,

I've put off asking this for a while for fear of offending. But my "am I living a Biblical life" audit has run into a roadblock and I need some help on His Word.

My copy of the King James 1611 Bible seems to have some extra bits in it that I think the True Christians seem to think shouldn't be there. But they're in front of me and I've got myself all in a muddle.

I'm not even certain if I need to warn the faint at heart to avert their eyes from this list:

    Tobit
    Judith
    Extra bits in Esther
    Wisdom
    Ecclesiasticus
    Baruch
    Extra bits in Jeremiah
    Extra bits in Daniel
    1 and 2 Maccabees

I certainly don't want to be removing one jot or tittle from the word, but I don't want to be reading fake scripture either.

Now, I'm certainly not going to understand the reason why I shouldn't be reading them (if I shouldn't) so a simple "Godly" or "not Godly" is all I need. But I thought I'd ask in this forum rather than the Christian Help one as some of the men might be confused as well (maybe. Maybe I'm just being silly, expecting men to be confused by something that is doubtless obvious).

How old is your Bible? It might be worth quite a bit of money. These books were included in King James versions published prior to 1666.

Swing by one of the antiquarian book shoppes on Portobello Road.

That would be nice, but sadly my copy was published 2008 by one of OUP's innumerable spinoffs. This one "Oxford World Classics"

Sounds like a false Bible to me. Have you studied my 7 part sermon on the subject HERE?

I have Pastor, it was one of the first topics I read on this forum. Of course, a lot of it was over my head but it certainly looks like an impressive feat of scholarship.

I'll get rid of my copy right away. I'll work from an online version for a while until I can get a proper one.

Miss Moore! You must rid yourself of that horror right away! I thought I recognized those names - they are CATHOLIC PAGAN BOOKS ADDED TO THE HOLY BIBLE!

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
            (Deuteronomy 4:2)

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
            (Proverbs 30:5-6)

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
            (Revelation 22:18-19)
Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

Why is everyone here so afraid of the Apocrypha? The 1611 Commitees saw fit to include them.

Not to be regarded as equal to the holy Scriptures. Of the books, King James said the following: "As to the Apocriphe bookes, I OMIT THEM because I am no Papist (as I said before)..."

Well, if I've understood correctly its because:

But its highly likely I haven't.

I'm amazed that the Catholics have had the gall to try to insert bits right into the Bible. Is this where they keep all the stuff about Mary being Queen of Heaven?

                  The nerve.

                      Magic?!

My seminary never permitted us to read the Apocrypha; they said they were the path to damnation. So I had no idea what was in them, just that they are evil.
