  • When Kissing Christian Brethren, How Much Tongue?

The subject came up recently during a rousing encounter between myself and my young protégé, Rico, who is a reforming spic and a brother in Christ.

It is my habit to greet Rico with a firm, manly handshake when he arrives at my home for private Bible Study. But this last time, as we clasped hands, Rico pulled me close to him and before I could react violently, he kissed me full on the mouth!

What deviltry is this, I asked myself. Soon after I felt his tongue slide past my teeth, I regained my senses and made ready to strike him. But before I could deliver the blow, he shouted at me in his thick accent: "1 Thessalonians 5:26!".

My resolve to destroy him faltered momentarily...then I balled my fist again, determined to transform his face into a crimson ruin.

Again he shouted: "1 Peter 5:14!".

Suddenly, I understood. It all came back to me in a flood of memories...I remembered my youth pastor, and how he had tried to instruct me in the ways of the "holy kiss", and how I rejected his tutelage time and again.

So now, an older and wiser man, I still know nearly nothing of proper technique. As eager as Rico is to teach me, it is I who Christ has cast into the role of mentor!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I've been lead to believe that the French had something to do with this - particularly with their reputation of being promiscuous adulterers and fornicators (and I might add, cathylicks).
    Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
    ...and get off my lawn

This is a very interesting question.

When I was queer I refused to kiss my fellow sodomites (on the mouth), even when we were doing the most vile and disgusting things to make Jesus cry. I reckon there was always that tiny little spark inside me that knew what we were doing was wrong, and that was my way of "holding back" a little.

If only I'd known then of James 2:10.

Anyway, now that I am washed clean of sin I kiss men all the time on the mouth (at church) and now I'm wondering, should I explore the Biblical limits of 1 Peter 5:14? I mean, "giving" someone the tongue seems to me the very definition of charitable.

      Yours in Christ,

Bible warns about kissing in some cases.

Kissing a woman (Harlot) is dangerous: Proverbs 7:7-18

Kissing your hand seems also to be a sin: Job 31:26-28

I have never kissed anybody - even my wife. I have found even thought of it quite disgusting and not necessary when I am performing my familial duties of producing offspring.
But if Bible tells us to kiss other Christians, then I think I have to begin.

        Does that include my wife?

What is it with these Mary worshipers anyway? It is kiss this and that any chance they can. Kiss the ring, the hem of a robe, each others backsides...you know what I mean? Even when I think about that nest of pedophiles called the vatican what is the first thing that comes to mind.? The kissing scene with the 2 eyetie brothers swapping spit in that misnamed movie the GODfather. the title of this movie an abomination in itself even without the obscene acts of brotherly love.

Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Very interesting. I think we should establish appropriate Landover Baptist Church protocol at our next men's bible study. It will probably require some form of practice, though I'm not sure what that should entail.
Revelation 19:15-16 "And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords."
