A friend of mine from Church recently approached me with a little crisis his family was in.
The younger of his 5 daughters apparently found some kind of chat room on the internet that was aimed at children. The father thought the chat room was decent because it was heavily moderated and advertised as family friendly. The terms of service there also referenced the Scriptures, so it seemed like a safe place.
What happened, however, was not friendly to his family. Apparently, the youngsters in there were talking about going to college and about exciting it was over there (more about this later!). This encouraged his daughter to also want to go to college. She got the idea that it would make her grow as a person and give her new insights. Okay... the silly child did not realize that all information is already in the Bible.
Since I am known in my community for my knowledge of the workings of the world, my friend asked me about college. He was aware of relevant Scripture that forbids higher education for females, but wanted to see what college was about anyway.
So we both started searching the internet looking for relevant information. We ended up with a documentary that removed all doubt. And this, I put very mildly. For your reference, the documentary is called "Girls Gone Wild". There is a series depicting a whole range of activities that take place at colleges and by girls from colleges. This gives you a very clear and vivid idea of the "excitement" your daughter will be part of.
We were both so mortified after the first few minutes that we couldn't even move. This forced us to sit through the entire ordeal.
We could not let his daughter see the documentary of course, but she seems to have accepted her father's wisdom. As an extra precaution, she is no longer allowed to access the internet. We sent a VERY angry letter to the chat room operators and told them they would go to Hell. We in the process of getting that chat room shut down for its depravity against minors.
If anyone is interested in more details about the documentary, please let me know. Since this is a common problem, I have ordered more copies to share with other fathers in our community, should their daughters have similar thoughts about college.
