No matter how much it seems like he did, Jesus didn't break any of them.
Here's a quick rundown of the Decalogue. All from Exodus 20.
1. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
3. 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
4. 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
6. 13 Thou shalt not kill.
7. 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. 15 Thou shalt not steal.
9. 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
10. 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
Ok, so now that we're all familiarized with the verses, they go like this (easy to remember)
1. No other gods.
2. Graven Images
3. Name in vain.
4. Sabbath
5. Father and Mother
6. Kill
7. Adultery
8. Steal
9. Bear false witness
10. Covet
Commandment 1. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Were Jesus not God (being the Son of God) when he said "No man cometh unto the Father, but by me" he would have been putting himself before God (the Father). Exodus 20:3 CLEARLY states, there should be no gods before God. Jesus, is in the way. But since He's God, He's not. So Jesus didn't break this commandment.
Commandment 2. Jesus, never did create anything that people worshiped, however, most "christians" today have a fish on their bumper, and a cross on their neck, which is clearly in violation of #2.
Commandment 3. John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
"I am" seems to be such an insignificant little phrase, however, it's much more than that. "I am" IS one of the name (nicknames, if you will) of God. Think back to Moses and the burning bush.
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Jesus, took this opportunity, to say to his peeps, "I AM". Were Jesus not God, he would have been taking (one of) the LORD's name in vain.
Commandment 4. In John 9, Jesus and his disciples went for a walk. They came across a blind man.
6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
Jesus did that on the Sabbath. According to the ten commandments, no work is to be done on the Sabbath. Healing someone is work. However, since He is God, he is on heaven time, and it was probably already past sundown, according to heaven's clock, so He didn't break the sabbath rule.
Commandment 5. At the marriage in Galilee, Jesus mom was pestering him to do something about the lack of wine.
John 2:4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
Since Mary isn't really his mother, but was just the vessel through which He was born, He isn't under the rule, to honor her. Therefore, he didn't break that commandment.
Commandments 6 and 9. Before we get to 6, we have to look at 9. Did Jesus bear false witness?
When Jesus was before Pilate, Pilate asked him a question.
Mark 15:2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto them, Thou sayest it.
Jesus IS the king of the Jews. He did not bear correct witness, but then he didn't bear false witness, he evaded the question, rather than answering it correctly. If he said "No", he would have been bearing FALSE witness. Jesus just bore "not necessarily correct" witness, as opposed to FALSE witness. Because of this style of witness, Jesus was put to death. He allowed himself to be killed. Which is commandment 6. Jesus had himself put to death, based on his less than truthful testimony. Jesus killed himself. Granted, without his sacrifice, we wouldn't have the chance of heaven. So thank Him for that.
Commandment 7. Jesus never committed adultery, he died a virgin.
John 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
Then Jesus said, whoever is without sin, cast the first stone. Why didn't Jesus cast the first stone? Jesus, it seems (by his actions), didn't really care for this commandment.
Commandment 8. Did Jesus ever steal? Jesus didn't actually take anything for his own benefit, however, he did cause several others to lose their productivity.
EX 1. Matthew 21:19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
This was not Jesus fig tree. It was also out of season for figs. But still, Jesus removed the ability of some farmer's tree, to ever produce figs again. It's not technically stealing.
EX 2. In John 2, Jesus was unhappy about the merchants in the temple.
John 2:15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
Jesus set free other people birds, and broke their tables, and poured out their money. This wasn't stealing, but it was definitely destruction of property. If you did that at a store front today, you'd be charged with something, but it's not stealing, so Jesus didn't break the commandment in either case. Had he taken a fig, it would have been stealing.
Commandment 10. Did Jesus ever covet? No. Coveting, is wanting something so bad, that you let it come between you and God. Since Jesus IS God, he couldn't come between himself. So he couldn't have coveted.
So there you have it. Jesus didn't break any commandments. He may be soft on adultery. But he didn't break it. He may have yelled at his mother, but she wasn't really his mom. He may have worked on the Sabbath, but he was on a different clock. He may have not told the truth, but he didn't bear false witness.
If it were you or I, by those actions, we would have broken at least 7 of the commandments. But THANK JESUS, that he was completely sin free, so there's no way he broke any of them.
