Well, the sounds are mostly industrial minded. And the bandmembers?? What do I care what they do, all I care for is that they make good music, I'm not gonna meddling into their private life. And dressing in women clothing?? Frankly, seeing a industrial band in that kind of clothing must be quite silly.

In that case, we would have to look at what sort of sounds they produce, if they encourage lustful gyration; also, what do the band members do when not in the studio? Are they heathens engaging in depraved activities or dressing in women's clothing? Things like that.

Well, the sounds are mostly industrial minded (hence the name), things like trains that hit the brakes or sounds from steel factories and such are used. I don't think much lust is generated when listening to this kind of music . And the bandmembers?? What do I care what they do, all I care for is that they make good music, I'm not gonna meddling into their private life. And dressing in women clothing?? Frankly, seeing a industrial band in that kind of clothing must be quite silly.

And how exactly will you define what's unGodly?? I can imagine that the lyrics that COF and MM uses are indeed not very Godly but what about industrial?? They only use electronics, no lyrics involved.

As for being unGodly, friend, anyone who refuses to follow all of God's Commandments is unGodly. Anyone who is not a True Bible-Believing Christian is, by definition, unGodly.

So, I expect all or nearly all of the many bands you mentioned will be found, with investigation, to be just as unGodly as Marilyn Manson, Cradle of Filth, or that little Mylie Cyrus/Hannah Montana whore. I imagine we could review any number of their albums and prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the "real" Goth is a highway to Hell, just like what we'd thought was Goth.

I imagine there's something horrible and unGodly about each and every one of those bands, but I admit they're not the ones I expected you to mention . . . like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, and Rod Stewart.

That last makes my skin crawl. If there's music in Hell, I bet it's his.

LOL, as explained in my previous post, Goth has nothing to do with Satan, so there's nothing unGodly about it. And yeah, Siouxi and the Banshees, that old-school Goth for sure. Marilyn Manson is just a freak that adapted some Goth features just to look interesting and to shock people but that is how far his Goth thing goes, he's a shockrocker, nothing more. NIN, that's a long way back, they supposed to start the Industrial music scene but frankly I find other bands more influential than NIN. And Rod Steward?? where the link??

Now, we know from the interweb that many Goths in Germany and out in Norway listen to black metal. So how do you explain that? We also know by looking at several goth members here (who came on to flame us from VampireFreaks), that Goths also listen to various forms of metal, including the band Dani Filth. As well as other gothic black metal bands such as moonspell, mortis, Kovenant etc etc.

Can you honestly say that you only have your old-school goth music on your ipod? Can you say that you listen to no metal / punk or other alternative music whatsoever? Can you say that all other goths do not listen to any metal / industrial / black metal of any kind? I doubt it.

To be honest, it all sounds the same to me.

Indeed, some might have CD's of several groups but the fact is that they choose a lifestyle, Either they choose Gothic or they choose Metal. And that's the difference. It's the path you follow that's important.

You still seem to confuse a lot of things, like the fact that industrial is not a form of Goth according to you. Well, I gonna tell you one thing, the Goth scene is a scene that has many sub-genres, ranging from old-school Goth to Noise and everything in between. All these sub-genres attract the same crowd, that is Goths. And no, I don't listen to Metal, I listen to Cyber-Goth, Industrial, Noise and many other forms of music that are attached to the Goth scene.

For you it might sound all the same but not for those who are in this subculture. But hey, R&B sounds all the same to me too, but I'm not gonna attack them because I'm not into it and I don't know much about that subculture to begin with.

It's easy to rant and give negative critics on a subculture, especially if you don't know squat about it. Because none of you knows the deal, you people just clamp on to stereotypical images without even trying to understand what's it all about. Goth isn't about sacrificing babies or drinking blood or any other stupid stereotype, it's about having a mutual feeling, to find people who like the same music, share the same thoughts and have the same way of living. And being Goth has nothing to do with hating God or Jesus or worshiping Satan because Goth isn't a religion or a cult, every single Goth makes his own choice in that, just like everybody else does in society.

And 2 more things, Dani Filth's band is Cradle of Filth, it's not because I don't listen Metal that I'm not informed. And Oh, I don't have an Ipod.

Well, I'm gonna explain a few things here, of course some will jump at is saying that's it's not true and stuff but they aren't in the Goth scene for about 15 years so...

The beginning of Goth lies somewhere at the end of the 70's, it was originally started to oppose the Punk subculture who's morales and crude appearance was not for everyone very appealing. In the early days you had some bands like Bauhaus and the Sisters of Mercy who defined themselves as something completely different and was soon adopted by the Goth crowed that was already in existence (the Goth way of living existed already (although shortly) before a certain music was coupled to it). The dark sound soon attracted a lot of people and with them came influential bands like Cassandra Complex, Red Zebra, Front 242 and numerous others. But instead of keeping it to one sound the Goth subculture began to evolve because that was the key to keep it alive, the scene learned from the punk subculture that one had to evolve to keep itself going. So when the old-school Goth and Wave began to become obsolete a new genre came to life, know as EBM and some bands earlier bands like Front 242 jumped on the train and took the ride into the late 80's early 90's together with bands like Covenant, Apoptygma Berzerk,... EMB was far more electronic but still had the dark overtone the Goth crowd loved. The lyrics were still overal the same, dealing with various things like love, hate, joy, live and death and so many other topics found in many styles of music. By the mid 90's many different sub-genres had emerged of which some were quite obscure. bands like the mysterious Sopor Aeternus (who up till today never gave any life performance but still sell a ton of CD's) and the more fetish Die Form found welcome greetings in a large part of the Gothic subculture. But as time evolved so did the music and the tone was set to an ever increasing longing for the electronic music and thus Electro-Goth and Industrial was born with pioneers like Sonar (industrial), Grendel (Electro-Goth), Combichrist (Electro-Goth). From there on there was a large overflow of various bands with all there own sounds and styles. especially in the last few years we saw the rising of the so called Terror-Electro (with bands like Hocico), cyber-goth (Xotox, Soman, Heimatearde, Trimetric,...) and the more extreme form like Noise (Institut, Genocide Organ, WinterKalte,...). Where this all will go is still a mystery, the longing to more and more electronic music will certainly generate some new style which is hard to predict now.

What I never understood was the fact why so many people link Goth to Metal. Sure, superficially the looks appear to be the same (black clothings, combat shoes, combat throusers,...) but the sound is so completely different that cross-breeds between Goth and metal are rare, even the so-called Goth Metal attracts a Metal crowd instead of a Goth crowd. And while some may try it out to get a taste of both many choose later on which way of life fits them most. Metal is harder, rawer, some of the lyrics are difficult to understand, even with the booklet of the CD in you hands. And the main difference between Metal and Goth is the fact that metal leans more towards satanic lyrics, while Goth does have some satanic/vampire groups they are rare and not very popular. Black and Death Metal consists mainly out of satanic orientated groups and are therefore the extreme opposite of Goth.
