  • Year of the Bible

I'm of two minds on this subject:

Washington, May 7 - U.S. Representative Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today observed the National Day of Prayer and also introduced H.Con.Res.284, the National Year of the Bible Resolution. This resolution encourages the President to designate an appropriate year as “The National Year of the Bible.” This resolution marks the 25th anniversary of the Year of the Bible Proclamation.
“I hope that the National Day of Prayer will encourage America’s citizens and leaders to seek God’s help through prayer and Bible reading. The Bible’s tremendous influence in the shaping of American history and providing hope for all Americans is something that Congress and the President should formally acknowledge.
“The National Year of the Bible Resolution reminds us that our great nation was founded upon Biblical principles and that religious freedom is guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. I encourage Speaker Nancy Pelosi to bring this resolution to the floor so President Barack Obama has the opportunity to designate an appropriate year as ‘The National Year of the Bible,’” said Paul Broun.
Although the Obama Administration unfortunately decided to scale back White House participation, Congressman Broun was honored to join the National Day of Prayer Task Force participants at a prayer celebration on Capitol Hill.

My first reaction is to thank God that there are still some folk who want to honor the Bible in public as well as in their hearts. It's such a small step from "Year of the Bible" to "Decade" or "Century" and such a nice brick in the wall of restoring God to his proper headship of this country. America can be great again once we recognize God, Jesus Christ, and the AV1611 King James Bible as the true basis of our goodness and greatness.
My second reaction is that this is just a lame attempt to give lip service to that Book of Books. It's too easy to make proclamations. But when I realize how much opposition there is to this idea, I realize how important it is! We have to support Congressman Broun and his holy crusade!

    In Christ,
    Warren
