I got a call from the Mayor of Orange City, Earl Woudstra. Earl wanted to know how he could stop the bad publicity Orange City was getting about the homer loving books in the town library. The impression people are getting is that people want to burn the homer books. His problem has quite a history.
A group of concerned citizens met with the Orange City Public Library Board. All these Christian people wanted was to take the books that promote homerism off the public shelves and put them in a restricted area. "The folks never said specifically they wanted the books destroyed, like burn them," Earl said.
I told him to go ahead and burn the books. Why risk eternity, I said, when you can have the problem solved in a few minutes.
The state's liberal rag, the Des Moines Register, had to butt in, come to the meeting and write a front page story:
