It's not hard to spot one once you really know what to look out for. If in doubt a quick up and down can confirm suspicions.

If the original poster hasn't met many gay people, then that's testimony to their ability to identify and avoid gays. Since all decent people want to avoid gays, it stands to reason that people who are successful at it - that is to say, people who've not met many gays - are the experts who everyone else should consult on the subject.

Appearance is also an easy way to spot a homosexual.

- Real Men will wear well fitted pants and shirts in subtle colors.
- Real Men do not wear jewelery (apart from a wedding ring) and have utilitarian accessories (baseball cap, aviators, etc)

- Gays wear clothing 2-4 sizes too small resulting in skin-tight jeans and shirts that only reach half way down the chest.
- Gay clothing often has a full rainbow of colors or simply pink.
- Gays often will have earings, necklaces, rings, and frilly accessories such as designer sunglasses and decorative hats.

Another thing to look out for in conversations is the word "Mall". A straight man will only use the word in limited circumstances
e.g. "My wife is at the mall" or "I went to the National Mall to watch Glenn Beck"
The homosexual will fit this into many situations.
e.g. "We can meet at the mall" or "I saw this fabulous sweater at the mall"
