  • Is Skateboarding a sin?

My son which is at the age of 9 now wants to begin skateboarding. I assure you that he will be wearing pads and only skateboarding at skate parks. This means he will not be vandalizing any thing and will be using each item for what it was meant for. He is a very good kid and has high hopes for this sport. How does Jesus look at the sport of skateboarding? I'm not meaning with the hype that comes with it, but the actual sport itself?

Will he be using this sport as a means of witnessing about the Love of Jesus to other skaters, or will this expenditure of money on pads and helmets and fancy boards with wheels on them simply be stealing from Jesus for your son's "fun"?

He will be doing it for a hobby and to experience the fun in life. He knows that he would not be able to do this if it wasn't for Jesus giving him the ability and granting him life. So yes his love for Jesus will no doubt be raised by skateboarding and experiencing the greatness in life/Jesus.

If he is not using the skating as a means to witness to others or to otherwise glorify God, then he is sinning by putting his own pleasure before service to the Lord.

That applies to any other hobby he might choose to take up, not skating in particular. Anything which distracts us from glorifying God is sin.

Do you mean that anything that makes us stray away from thinking of God is a sin?

Exactly. Except we should be glorifying God, not just "thinking of" Him.

"Thinking of God" can include things like questioning His Will.

I think I worded that wrong.
I mean many things can make our concentration stray away on what it should truly be on, which is God.

But if that is so, does it mean that all sports would be sin?

A sport played for the sole purpose of glorifying God is not a sin. The same sport played for fun is for personal amusement, and therefore a sin.

Depends on where his head is, not what he's wearing.

Is his intent to have fun, or to glorify God?

Do you imagine that wearing a t-shirt makes the words emblazoned upon it by some 12 year old Indonesian girl come true? If you bought a t-shirt at Walmart saying "I'm going to Heaven," would that be enough to trick Jesus into letting you in?

Are you that deluded by satan, Keith?

                          Re: Is Skateboarding a sin?

Well skateboarding is not the actual sin in my view but this the people and images that go along with it is what my concern would be.

As a parent all you have to do is look into the clothing and equipment that often is associated with skateboarding and see that it is all related or tagged with satanic messages and overtones.

Soon you child will be part of the group and peer pressure will prevail and he will come home with skull bones and funky punk hair and with an attitude. Let him where that Jesus shirt and he will either get his ass kicked or laughed off the skate park, and when you see that happen you will know it is not the sport for him.
Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these courageous couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds

And this applies to me in delivering Gods word to the world, postage prepaid by Jesus

Are you even Christian? I mean you people all pretend to be Christians and you all go to church, but your hearts are full of hate. All you do is judge people and assume things about them. Get real!!!
Jesus loves everyone, you should too.
Stop enslaving yourselves to false beliefs.

A 9 year old skateboarding = sinning? hahahahahahahah what a joke.
Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
