  • Day 152. Job 34-36

    Job 34-36

    Today we get:
    • Elihu chastises the Job
    • Elihu continues
    • Elihu continues to continue

    Job 34

Elihu has been talking since Job 32.

1 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,

    The kid can talk...

5 For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.

The kid then insults Job for a bit.

7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?

Elihu's got him some balls... to say that stuff to Job.

10 Therefore hearken unto me ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

Well, to be honest, none of the old guys have said that God has done any wickedness yet.

11 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

Isn't this what the three other guys have been saying? That Job's issues are caused by Job.

    26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

    Another jab at Job.

35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.

Damn... one just doesn't speak to Job like that. Additionally, One does not simply walk into Mordor.

36 My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.

Wow, Elihu is really disrespecting Job now.

37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.

Good thing this was before the time of Saul.

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Rebellion may or may not be as the sin of witchcraft yet.

    Job 35

    Elihu CONTINUES...

2 Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

I don't really remember Job saying that... but that's what Elihu heard... whenever it was that he showed up.

I think Elihu is about to tell Job what his sin was.

3 For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

    ... just a bit more...

4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

Finally we will know what it was.

5 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

Well, crap! He's talking in metaphors again.

6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

Yes, each man is small, what was the sin???

13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

Well, to be honest, God hears everything, he just doesn't LISTEN.

16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.

    Is that it, Vanity?

    Job 36

    Elihu CONTINUES...

2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf.

So he hasn't said what the sin was yet. I thought it was vanity.

3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

    So is Elihu a prophet?

4 For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.

Crap, come on Elihu, out with it.

10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

Yes, we know, God punishes people for bad things... what was Job's bad thing?

11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

    The suspense is killing me...

24 Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

Yes, we know, we are to honour God in all that we do, and whenever anything happens ... so what was it?

31 For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.

Yes, we know God is great... the sin?

33 The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.

... will be told at a later date.

So what have we learned today?

    1. Not much, we pretty much knew all this already.

    2. So far the possible sins of Job are rebellion, and vanity.

Why the hatred and racism saucer lips?? You'd do well to try and control your racist undertones, we typically expect our nigra guests to be polite and respectful of white folk...

Job 34:2 Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

Job doesn't know what he's done wrong, and all Job's friends can do is condemn without convicting. Elihu, wise beyond his years, comes out of nowhere, and rightly puts his elders in their place. When Elihu spoke, all Job and his three friends could do was sit in silent amazement. Elihu, somehow, knows things only God would know.

If Job were a work of fiction, literary critics would claim that Elihu was a "Gary Stu" stand in for the author, who shows up and delivers the author's own opinions while the other characters all shut up and take note.

Of course, a criticism like that wouldn't hold water because the story of Job is true and Elihu was a real person.

Upon request I will cite scripture for all these facts in God's Holy Word.

✝ This is a Christian community and we worship GOD of the Holy bible, the only Living GOD. We worship Jesus Christ, Son of GOD and Savior. Anything else is absurd. ✝

Gary Stu doesn't even rhyme with Elihu!
