Leviticus 25-27
The end of Leviticus
Today we get:
Leviticus 25
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD.
God is telling the people things that they need to do in the future. How far in the future? Numbers 1:1 starts in the SECOND year in the wilderness. There's only 38 more to go!
God tells the people that they are to work the field, the vineyard and the fruit trees for six years. On the seventh year they are to let the land rest.
Anything that grows on the 7th year, they are to ignore, there's to be no plowing, no tending to gardens, nothing that could be considered harvesting done in the sabbath year.
After the 7th sabbath year, will be the Jubile year.
9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
On the Jubile year, every Jewish slave is to be returned to his/her family. All borrowed property is to be returned.
No work is to be done in the Jubile year. But in the 48th year, the land will provide enough for 3 years. The 48th year, the 7th sabbath, the jubile, and until the 51st year is ready for harvest. (Why He didn't provide enough for the Hebrews when Jacob was in Egypt is a mystery, why He only allowed the Egyptians enough for 7 years... well, that's a heavenly mystery. )
In the jubile year, 42 For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as bondmen. Jewish slaves are to be freed.
44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.
46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.
Heathen slaves are a family heirloom. They belong FOR EVER! Not to be freed, no, they are a possession, to be passed on to your children.
The children of Israel are servants to God, they are only temporarily slaves to a fellow Israelite.
55 For unto me the children of Israel are servants; they are my servants whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
Just in case you forgot, I am the LORD your God, I brought you out of Egypt.
Leviticus 26
God reiterates some rules.
1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.
No graven images, how many times has he told them that?
Has he told them enough?
2 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
Don't forget, I am the LORD!
3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
He's such a nice God, when people do exactly what He tells them to do.
6 And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.
7 And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.
God will kick ass for you if you worship Him, exactly how He says to do it.
11 And I set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.
12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
God will be a great God, if you do everything, after all, He brought them out of Egypt.
13 I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
As though He'd let them forget.
14 But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;
15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:
That's a HUGE But (not the one in Exodus 33:23).
16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
Remind you of any particular time in history?
17 And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.
All this for not following His laws.
18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
He will forgive, if you ask, but if not, then He can also dole out some MASSIVE punishment.
21 And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.
Like occupation by the Babylonians; Persians; Romans; Ottomans; and then there was that thing in the 1940's.
23 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;
24 Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
Did He mention the seven times punishment?
30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.
When bad things happen to Jews, they bring it upon themselves.
40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;
41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:
42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.
How much suffering does it take for Jews to worship God the way He wants? Ask the 6,000,000.
46 These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
PRAISE JESUS!!!
Leviticus 27
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When a man shall make a singular vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by thy estimation.
What is a singular vow?
We are all familiar with someone saying "God if you get me out of this, I promise..." That act, is the singular vow.
3 And thy estimation shall be of the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old, even thy estimation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary.
For men, when they promise to do everything for God, when they are up against the wall, to get out of the promise, it's 50 shekels of silver.
4 And if it be a female, then thy estimation shall be thirty shekels.
For women, it's 30. Which proves that women, to God, are only worth 60% of a man.
8 But if he be poorer than thy estimation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to his ability that vowed shall the priest value him.
If a man doesn't have 50 to get out of his vow, then the priest can determine what he's worth.
9 And if it be a beast, whereof men bring an offering unto the LORD, all that any man giveth of such unto the LORD shall be holy.
Additionally, a person could make a vow and promise an animal, or part of his field.
32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD.
A tithe is 10%.
34 These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai.
Thus ends Leviticus.
So what have we learned today?
1. Women are worth 60% of men.
2. It only costs 50 shekels of silver to get out of a promise to God.
3. If the people of Israel follow God's laws, he will help them. If they don't He'll not just forget about them, but take some weird pleasure in torturing them.
