  • A Boy's Choir Preview

    Organizing a Boy's Choir sure can be hard work. That's part of what makes it so rewarding. As each boy grows bigger, the seed within them sprouts forth into young men of God. Their bodies grow so strong with the spirit of the Lord that it can sometimes take one's breath away. It is truly a blessing to behold.

    My Boy's Choir is often tasked with composing a song with a relevant message for today's youth. Last Wednesday, we began working on our latest ensemble piece entitled "The Bible Tells Me So". It's a wonderful reminder of the messages of God's love found in Deuteronomy 13:12, Leviticus 20:27, James 2:10, 2 Thessalonians 1:8, and so many other wonderful passages. The theme, of course, is that God's love is specific, and we must all grow as good Christians to find ourselves continuously in His favor. Stray from the path in any direction, and WHAMMO - straight to aeternal damnation! Praise God!

    Attached to this forum post a quick snippet of the Boy's Choir singing "The Bible Tells Me So", to be performed this Sunday. Special thanks to young Tyler Fullwood for putting the lyrics into a handsome little video for everyone.

    My apologies for the double post... I forgot to mention:

    After you've listened to the song (attached in the first post), please feel free to offer other suggestions for choral arrangements. If you have any song ideas or have written a Godly piece, please feel free to suggest it. Sometimes simply suggesting a new title can inspire us all!

            Dear Friend,

            Thank you for your contribution to comparative theology. You will, however, find that damned is damned. In for a penny (Jews), in for a pounding by Satan's glistening he-rod (you).

            Yours in His Hatred of You,

              Your insights are truly inspired, Youth Minister Lester - your efforts at making our repertoire of church music more accessible to our youngsters is deeply appreciated. I myself am constantly reminded of the trivial libretto problem whilst trying to listen to early Verdi, Handel, and that aging Bel Canto trash cranked out by the papist Italians.

              There are many pieces that could use some updating, and the following comes to mind. While Stewart Lee is a punk God mocker and tries to make a pathetic stab at being a comedian, he does have a point here.

              Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
              brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
              ...and get off my lawn

                I'm delighted and encouraged by your words of kindness and support. I've long been seeking an excuse to have the boys attempt All Things Bright And Beautiful and now, through your inspirational words, the Lord Jesus Christ has finally sent us the sign that it's time to start working on it. The boys are almost as excited to start work as I am. When it's ready, we'll record it for you and get your feedback!

                By the way, I watched the video of Stewart Lee's assessment of the hymn over and over. I'm not sure if he's being comical or not, and the people laughing at his explanations are a bit distracting, but over all I am beginning to see the piece in a new light. I look forward to seeing if that influences our approach to our rendition of it. Hosanna in the Highest!

                  That was very beautiful Youth Minister Lester.

                  Brother Fullwood really hammered hard on that tune and it really shows. I bet he was thinking about JESUS!

                  I for one, cannot WAIT to hear the choir all together.

                    Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement! On Brother W. J. Bryan's suggestion for "All Things Bright And Beautiful", the boys have created a new piece called "Only Saved And Beautiful". Click here to go to the thread about the new video!
