  • The Dangers of Following False Teachers

Greetings, fellow Christians. Today we will be examining the story of 1 Kings 13.

    1 Kings 13
:1 And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.
2 And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.
3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.

So, God disapproves of the altar at Beth-el, and sends a man of God to speak out against it.
4 And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
5 The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
6 And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.

When King Jeroboam puts his hand on said altar, it dries up and gets stuck to it, but the man of God prays, and it is restored.

7 And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.
8 And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:
9 For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.

This is important: the Lord has told the man of God not to eat bread or drink water, or turn back. Why? I don't know. Do I look like God to you?

10 So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.
11 Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
12 And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah.
13 And he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. So they saddled him the ass: and he rode thereon,
14 And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am.
15 Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.
16 And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:
17 For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.

So, a friendly old man invites the mysterious, nameless man of God to go eat bread with him. Sounds hard to refuse, but moG manages it, remembering what God told him.

18 He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.
19 So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.

The old man is so desperate to get our friend moG to eat his bread and drink his water that he lies, and tells moG that God ordered him to bring moG into his home. This story would be a lot simpler if the characters had names. MoG falls for it, goes back with him, eats and drinks. Will this end well? Let's see.

20 And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:
21 And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,
22 But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the Lord did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

The Lord does not approve of moG going back, eating and drinking.

23 And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.
24 And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.

So God sends a lion to kill the man of Him. And the poor guy never even had a proper name.

Now, the important part of this story is around verse 18. Does moG think "right, I want to infuriate God, so I'll go to Beth-el, wear a dress and eat bread with pork rinds while listening to Cradle of Filth"? No, he honestly believes that God wants him to go to the house, eat and drink. Does this save him? Not at all. This has very important implications for today's so called "Christians." Good intentions will not save you. If you fail to follow the Lord's commands, even if you think you're doing His will, you are damned, and that's that. So how can we be sure? How can we know whether it was Christ who said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" or "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" or "guns don't kill people, rappers do, smoking weed, a woo woo woo"?
The only way to be sure that you are not enraging God is to look up his commands yourself in the King James Bible. Not what your church says is right, not what society says is right, but what God says is right.

Or, if you're too busy to do that, ask one of the Pastors here at Landover, and you'll be sure to get an accurate answer. It's all good.

    Yours In Christ,
    Temperance.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

Re: The Dangers of Following False Teachers

False teachers are everywhere: false religions - "wolves in sheeps clothing" are the TRUE terrorists and insurgents we should worry about, because terrorists can only kill your body, while false teachers condem souls to eternal torture.

For an example: even in godly Orange County, in the most trusty of settings, one finds satanism.

The Crystal Cathedral, built by "The Hour of Power" televangelist Rev. Dr. Robert H. Schuller, is very similar to our own church:

The outside, looks like a Corporate headquarters, the way Jesus likes it:

And the inside looks like a shopping mall, also the way Jesus likes it:

It looks like the most innocent of settings. Until you come across this fact:

In October 2000, former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev was a guest at the Crystal Cathedral.

That's right, an atheist, as a special guest! No wonder the conductor of the Church orchestra shot up the church and then commited suicide!

See why Landover Baptist has a clear policy that states UNSAVED UNWELCOME?

OMG, Jeb, noone can ever argue this truth that you speak so well.

If the Lord leads you to it, he will get you through it.

As another example, Jesus killed that old pantywaist liebral Rex Humbard today. A good friend of the Clintons he was. I shudder with joy when I imagine the horrors of hellfire that false preacher is suffering at this very moment.
