If women aren't property, don't you think God would have told us that when He gave the law? That would've been a better way to protect women if that was His aim.

If you rape a woman, you have to marry her. You can't beat, kill or leave her. So think before you rape. If you don't want to marry her, don't rape her.
Sage advice right from the pages of the Bible. And it still applies today.

Also, please recognize that none of the versus you quoted are from the Gospels.

As Christians, we follow Christ. That is, Jesus. Jesus taught the New Testament as a LAW 2.0, if you will. The Jews were raised with the original LAW, and it was good, but it sorely needed an upgrade (no doubt due to self-glorifying people that twisted the ambiguous meaning of the Text), so Jesus came and taught the people a New way of life and living. To learn to be Good, as God wants you to be Good, to "treat others the way you wish to be treated". This includes Women. The Gospels (i.e. M, M, L, J) are the words of Jesus himself. I dare you to find a passage in the Gospels that state that a man can do whatever he wishes to a woman.

If you wish to follow only the Old Testament, and ignore the 4 most prominent, powerful books of the bible, please don't call yourself a Follower of Christ, Jesus.
You can't be a Christian if you don't believe the Old Testament.

Although I mean no disrespect, I believe your interpretation of every one of those quotations is incorrect.

Every quotation you sited was given as a rule to protect the woman; in a world where she is viewed as an object, it would be very easy for a man to have, marry, lay with, rape, reject, kill or abandon as he wishes, given the rules at that time. The LAW was given to these people to protect the woman. If you rape a woman, you have to marry her. You can't beat, kill or leave her. So think before you rape. If you don't want to marry her, don't rape her.

The idea of the woman's nakedness "belonging" to the man isn't because her nakedness is not her own - the whole point of the law is that you don't have the right to view another man's wife naked. Period. Regardless of how it's worded, that's the only meaning behind any of those verses.

As for the father "owning" the daughter: The father is the caregiver of the woman, of course, because parents should have the best interests of their child in mind. They are the best judges of a potential husband's character; even in today's society, you must admit that, as parents, our children don't make the best decisions for suitors. So yes. Give the parent the consent of who marries the daughter. As for "payment", you have to consider, the daughter is (or, should be) precious to her father, and this is why she must be "paid for". The potential son-in-law must prove himself worthy of marrying the daughter. If he rapes her, he must "pay his dues" to the father and "man up" for what he did.

Imagine how the world could have been, or perhaps was, treating women before these laws. I'd say that it definitely is a step up from "Women are nothing, so treat them as you wish", wouldn't you say?

Also, please recognize that none of the versus you quoted are from the Gospels.

As Christians, we follow Christ. That is, Jesus. Jesus taught the New Testament as a LAW 2.0, if you will. The Jews were raised with the original LAW, and it was good, but it sorely needed an upgrade (no doubt due to self-glorifying people that twisted the ambiguous meaning of the Text), so Jesus came and taught the people a New way of life and living. I understand that this will probably not sway your opinion one way or another, but I think you need to do more research, my friend.

    God Bless.

I did not create the world. Sometimes I share a recipe from a book with others and know that what's in the recipe book will work out OK if they follow the instructions. Now I did not write the recipe book, someone else did; usually they try out different recipes to see if they're any good and if not they don't go in the book.

But say I just make up my own recipe? Well I know what to do because I made it and I can tell someone how to get it to come out properly. But I am not a cake.

God made the world and everything in it: He knows how to get it to come out properly even if we think that roast beef should be cooked in the refigerator or icecream is best stored in a kiln. If I listen to Him and follow His instructions I know that I will come out properly, as He intended, but if I decide to cook myself at 1,000,000° I will fry.

The atheist chooses to fry. Just look around. Godless tyrannies such as Australia, Norway, Canada are stuffed full of crazies born in sin and encouraged to remain in that condition for a lifetime of tawdry pleasure leading to death and

    HELL FOREVER

whereas in other places where God's Just Law is respected there is the certainty of everlasting life and an opportunity to praise God unceasingly in Heaven. It's a no brainer.

How could anyone respect another who chooses agony and despair over joy and life? Jesus explains it like this:
John 10:10b I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. LOOK UP

Of course Egypt is real, it's mentioned in the Bible (along with dragons and unicorns). Silly ignorant atheist.

Son, why do you think you are here? Do you really think mocking Him and poking fun at God's Truth would be entertaining? Really? Don't you long for something more... substantial?

What's holding you back, dear? Why do you not yet trust the Divine Lover, Jesus Christ?

Well that's just what is wrong with kids today of this country, I expect

It's the MTV and the playstation and Nintendo that rots the youth of today's brains.

Those video games where a dragon jumps on a man or a guy with a gun shoots monsters stops the kids coming to know Christ.

Romans 1:21 "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."

They imagine themselves spacemen, or something: kinda gay, to play dress up in your brain, too me.

Do we really want kids growing up to be lisping panty wastes?

So, instead of learning the truth about what the Bible really says, you'd rather wallow in your ignorance.

    Now that is sad.
