  • Mary and Joseph did not leave Jesus at a rest stop.

    Hello Landover Baptist Church.

I have a neighbor Mortimer who is Jewish he smells like ground pepper and he told me that Mary and Joseph abandoned Jesus. I said I do not believe you and he said yes they were traveling and they left him at a rest stop.

First of all I do not think they had rest stops back then and second of all I looked in my Bible and I found the part Morty was talking about it is Luke 2:42-46 it says:

And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

So it was really not their fault it was Jesus who tarried that means loitered and it was not a rest stop it was a temple with grown Middle Eastern men so He was safe it was only 3 days.

    Thank you.

    Rusty

P.S. I am very sad that Morty will not hold my hand in Heaven because he does not believe in Jesus he barbecues pork spare ribs with me even though he is not supposed to.

P.P.S. I am not trying to be mean to Jesus he was only 12 and this is in the Bible.
Psalms 116:6 The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.

Hello Rusty. I don't see what Morty's problem is here. I think the jews just don't understand that God is always with True Christians(TM) wherever we may be. And God is Jesus's father - Joseph was only a sort of stepfather. So it was perfectly all right!

And Jesus would not have tarried if his father, God, had not intended him to. If this had not been okay, God would have made sure someone called the social services and got Joseph and Mary jailed for abandonment.

Try not to worry about it. And maybe try to explain to Morty why he was wrong - if he's good at barbecuing ribs, then he sounds like a potential ex-jew to me.

All the best, dear, as always,

Typical Jewry. It's not enough that they murdered our LORD (temporarily), now they try to undermine the faith of His simplest of servants.

Christ is the genius of love and as such the most diametric antipole to Jewry, which is the incarnation of hate. Christ was the first anti-Jewish opponent of stature. The Jew is the lie that became flesh. He nailed Christ to the cross, and thus for the first time in history nailed the eternal truth to the cross.

The Jew is contrary to our being. He desecrated our people, spit on our ideals, paralyzed the strength of the nation, made our customs rotten, and polluted the morale. Just as Morty tries to undermine the faith of simple Rusty here.
      II Thessalonians 1:7-9
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power

The man who is being progressively sanctified will inescapably sanctify his home, school, politics, economics, science, and all things else by understanding and interpreting all things in terms of the Word of God and by bringing all things under the Dominion of Christ the King. -R.J. It might seem sad now that, unless he repents and becomes Saved, this person will be tortured forever because he believed the things taught to him as a child by his wicked parents. Hell is not a nice place and that is where they deserve to be. I deserve to be there too but Jesus has Redeemed me.

Luke is a lovely Gospel and this chapter includes several eyewitness accounts of Jesus in the temple. The temple is not there now. So how does your friend know that there was a temple there then? Or that there was ever a temple in Jerusalem?

The answer can only be because he has read about it or maybe someone else read about it and told him. And how does he know there was a Jesus to be "abandoned" in the first place?

Because he has read about it.

The same Scripoture telling him there was a temple also tells us about Jesus. The same prophets who spoke in that temple predicted that Jesus would be born. And whan He was born there were simarlarly prophetic acknowledgements of the fulfillment of those prophecies. Luke records this. Without the Gospel record your neighbour would not know that Jesus existed at all just as without the Old Testament he would not know that there ever were prophets or temples.

Why does he believe some bits but not the other bits?
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Matthew 1:22-23c Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel.. KJV

We know that Israelite prophetesses were real:
Judges 4:4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.
Isaiah 8:3a And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived.. KJV
        * MORE PROPHETESSES HERE

The mystery is why, having accepted that there were prophetesses and that they prophecised—otherwise they would not be prophetesses—and having accepted that there was a temple which Jesus visited twice in Luke 2 alone, all of a sudden the resident prophetess starts spouting nonsense when she sees baby Jesus and the same record telling us that He existed goes wonky when it records what He did?
Luke 2:44b-46a ..they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple..
Luke 2:36-38 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise* unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. KJV

        LIKEWISE

Could you enquire what secret record exists to explain which bits are wonky please (if they're only available in synagogues I will have no trouble obtaining one)? That is a book I would like to see.
