Old universe, young earth?

What are your thoughts on the matter? I believe that earth is young, around 6,000 years, as the Bible shows, however, evidence points that the universe could be older. I recently read the book I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist written by Norman L. Geisler and he had an interesting view on the creation of the earth and the universe, while still staying within what God says in the Bible.

What "evidence"? The Bible clearly states the Universe started with the Earth.

How could the universe be older than the earth when they came into existence at the same time?
