    Dear Hatemonger;

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule of worshiping satan and setting fire to orphanages to post this hateful message. The Holy Bible tells us that we are actually Blessed by your persecution! Thanks for proving that we're right.

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Enjoy hell. I know that Jesus and I can't wait to watch you burn in hell for all eternity. Oh, how we'll laugh at you as you scream in agony! Shout Glory!!

    YIC,

I've joined this site just to express my support and sympathy for mjohniii. Everything you've said has been twisted and taken out of context and I really feel for you. People don't want to understand what you're trying to explain to them, because that would mean they're agreeing with an atheist (what could be more blasphemous?!?!). But don't let it get you down, they just don't understand that people with different views and ways of life can also be happy. I've been an atheist myself since I was 11 and I lead a completely fulfilling life. I do good deeds and help people because my common sense and humanity tell me it's the right thing to do, not because I think it will please some divinity and prevent me from getting sent to a very hot place for all of eternity. Some of my friends are muslims and, in contrast to many people on this forum, they are not in the least bit extreme, they just peacefully follow their religion and don't try to force people to join their faith or to feel guilty for who they are. Every religion has its share of extremists, but rejecting everyone of a certain religion will only increase the amount of hatred in the world and lead to a larger number of extremists. Logical, right?
I would never intentionally insult someone's faith, because I have too much respect for my fellow human beings, whatever nationality or religion they are. Similarly, it's about time religious people started to respect atheists in the same way.
I'm sure I'll get all kind of insults for this message, or even worse - "sympathy" for not being part of the "true faith" - but none of that matters to me as I know who I am and what I believe in. My only aim here is to tell mjohniii: You're not alone!!!

p.s. to all of you who were discussing the experiment with the balloon - if the paper doesn't stick, this is because a) the balloon is filled with air, so it has a very low mass (volume and mass are two different things!) and b) the mass of the earth is considerably larger anyway, so the piece of paper will just be pulled down to the ground by the force (whether you believe in it or not) known as gravity...

Aw, it's such a shame that you are so determined to go to hell. I guess your parents didn't raise you proper Christian?
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

My parents raised me to be a good person, to help others and be kind to everyone, regardless of their religion, nationality, etc. They taught me it's wrong to judge others. They taught me that everyone is equal and no-one is superior to anyone else.
As for hell - I respect the fact that you believe in its existence and, that being the case, I can understand and am grateful for your concern. My own personal belief however is that hell doesn't exist, therefore I have nothing more to say about it.

They are mistaken. True Christians are superior.

The reason you are an atheist and refuse to listen to what Christians have to say is because that goes against your secular religion. You would have to accept that your parents lied to you.

That reminds me of a story of an atheist who walked on the train tracks and told the Christian man "I respect the fact that you believe a train is coming, now shoo". The train came and the atheist went...

You are effectively walking around with a terrible disease and you refuse to be treated for it. You can be good and ethical and all that, but you'll still go to Hell. Why won't you let us help you???

Be wary of false Kumbaya Christians who use a highlighter and scissors to read the Bible. God wants us to read the lines, not between the lines. False Christians will go to Hell:
            Matthew 7:22
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Yes I do believe that I'm a good person. At least, I always try my best to be one. By the way, I'm a she, not a he, but you had no way of knowing that :-). I'm not sure what I've said that makes you think I stubbornly refuse to accept criticism.

My parents gave me the opportunity to decide for myself what I wanted to believe in, rather than forcing one religion upon me. As a child I went to church every Sunday, so I had a good understanding of Christianity and was then able to make my own unbiased decision about whether it was the right path for me.

I'm sorry if you can't respect my views just because they're different to yours. For me, the most important thing is making the world a more peaceful and tolerant place and treating others as I'd like to be treated myself. As a "true Christian" I would have thought that those values would be most important to you too. Would a decent god really care about being worshipped more than about seeing his/her children being kind to each other??

Yes, but it's not an absolute reference point. You have elevated yourself, rather than God, to the position of the ultimate arbiter. You may, for instance, believe that holding Satanistic rituals with freshly aborted babies is a good thing by itself or something that should be tolerated out of respect.

Unlike you, Christians are completely open to criticism. If someone disagrees with any of our positions, we just flip open the Bible, look up the relevant Scripture, and come to an irrefutable conclusion about what God wants. Also ask yourself this: did YOUR son die several days for our sins? Yes? No?

That's because your parents didn't love you:

Proverbs 13:24 "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes."
Proverbs 23:13-14 "Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell."

That's because your views are false. Do you go to mathematics forums to complain that you deserve respect for claiming that 1 + 1 = 3?

We do respect your right to hold those views for now because that's what secular law dictates. We also give you some leeway because women shouldn't be taken very seriously anyway. Once Sarah Palin becomes president, she will enact Blasphemy laws so that it will become illegal to reject God or Christianity.

That's not what the Bible teaches. The Bible doesn't say it's OK to be atheist. In fact, Jesus Christ is quoted numerous times to have said that people who do not follow him (i.e. following other religions or none at all) will go to Hell.

So if Jesus Christ Himself almost literally says "atheists will go to Hell", do you find it reasonable that as a Christian man, I should think "nah, Jesus was just talking crap"?

The Bible doesn't teach kindness as a principal value, it teaches that we should worship God and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. If you don't consider God to be decent because of that, then that's something you should take up with God.

Perhaps you would like to pray to God now?

See, that's what I mean with you not being able to accept criticism. You automatically assume that if someone disagrees with you, it's because that person has some sort of mental issue.

Do you at least acknowledge that the Bible claims, unequivocally, that atheists will go to Hell due to rejecting Jesus Christ as their Savior? This is completely independent of how "good" they may be.

As an aside, Matthew 7:22-23 (as also referenced in my signature) states that also Christians who haven't followed the Bible accurately and completely will go to Hell. That is why we MUST follow the Bible literally. Otherwise, we'll go to Hell.

Actually no I didn't. Sorry, I thought I'd quoted myself.

Anyway, in answer to all the stuff about the bible - I personally don't believe in the bible. Perhaps it has some historical facts in it, but I don't intend to use it to dictate my life. I can think for myself and don't need an (extremely ambiguous) ancient book to do my thinking for me. But please don't take that as an insult, it's just my personal opinion.

I know the brainwashing thing sounds a bit mean, but it's quite an interesting thing to speculate on. I always try to see all the sides of any argument and delight in any (non-bigoted, non-racist, non-sexist...) criticism of my ideas, because it gives me the opportunity to philosophise.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. Atheists do not necessarily have mental issues that warrants some form of psychiatric, but they might have emotional issues or traumas that they need to resolve so that can be one with God again.
