Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm quite satisfied with my emotional stability :-). And let's think... Nope, no traumas. But thanks for the psychoanalysis :-). I'm not trying to upset anyone, I'm just living my life, minding my own business, making friends, helping others. Sorry that you can't convert me, but rest assured that I'm perfectly happy the way I am. Actually it's fascinating just how different people's attitudes are in the States and in Britain (where I'm from). Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression that Britain is a lot more tolerant towards different religions or the lack of religion. In any case it's a very rare thing there to be made to feel almost apologetic about being atheist. Saying that, I have some very good friends from the States who are not at all extreme. Everyone's different, that's what makes the world such an interesting place to live :-).

Okay, so let's say you're having a conversation with a friend of yours and your friend casually says that he will jump in front of the train tomorrow. Will you or will you not try to convince him to not do it?

As an aside, the horrors of Hell will not be felt until you die. That's when you will feel sorry.

Watch this all the way to the end...

I take my orders from Jesus H. Christ, supernatural born US citizen

Be wary of false Kumbaya Christians who use a highlighter and scissors to read the Bible. God wants us to read the lines, not between the lines. False Christians will go to Hell:
      Matthew 7:22
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Asking a Christian to prove God exists is like asking him to prove his phone rings because yours doesn't. Make that call yourself! Dial 0800-get-on-your-knees-and-pray.

Ah, yes, the UK - a bastion of tolerance!

Oh, wait, what's this your Prime Minister said yesterday?

In his speech on radicalisation and terrorism on Saturday, Mr Cameron warned that the "hands-off tolerance" of unacceptable practices by non-white communities had only served to encourage extremism.
He criticised "state multiculturalism" and argued the UK needed a stronger national identity to stop people turning to extremism.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with Mr Cameron wholeheartedly. But don't you pretend that your nation is a beacon of tolerance compared to Godly America, because that is flat-out false. You're just coming to the party a little later than us. Brits are, by and large, a little slow on the uptake.

          1. Gravity keeps us on the Earth.
          2. Because the Earth is so massive any thing that has gravity in the Earth is canceled out and is just null.
          3. The Earth is so huge that you don't even notice it I mean come on.
Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done
abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

But don't let it get you down, they just don't understand that people with different views and ways of life can also be happy. I've been an atheist myself since I was 11 and I lead a completely fulfilling life. I do good deeds and help people because my common sense and humanity tell me it's the right thing to do, not because I think it will please some divinity and prevent me from getting sent to a very hot place for all of eternity. Some of my friends are muslims and, in contrast to many people on this forum, they are not in the least bit extreme, they just peacefully follow their religion and don't try to force people to join their faith or to feel guilty for who they are. Every religion has its share of extremists, but rejecting everyone of a certain religion will only increase the amount of hatred in the world and lead to a larger number of extremists. Logical, right?
I would never intentionally insult someone's faith, because I have too much respect for my fellow human beings, whatever nationality or religion they are. Similarly, it's about time religious people started to respect atheists in the same way.
I'm sure I'll get all kind of insults for this message, or even worse - "sympathy" for not being part of the "true faith" - but none of that matters to me as I know who I am and what I believe in. My only aim here is to tell mjohniii: You're not alone!!!

p.s. to all of you who were discussing the experiment with the balloon - if the paper doesn't stick, this is because a) the balloon is filled with air, so it has a very low mass (volume and mass are two different things!) and b) the mass of the earth is considerably larger anyway, so the piece of paper will just be pulled down to the ground by the force (whether you believe in it or not) known as gravity...
I assure you that this website displays an incredibly small demographic of the United States, one that most likely has not even completed high school let alone attended any sort of reputable university.

And about burning in hell, well, if it is true that I will (doubt it), then at least I will have enjoyed this beautiful life much more than any of those here damning me have. I will have enjoyed the beauty that is literature, mathematics, physics, sex, variety, and self-discovery. That, to me, is worth an entire eternity of pain and suffering.

And to tell the truth, heaven sounds dreadfully boring, and full of people like... well, you know.

First of all, self identified fundamentalist Christians make up 20-24% of the U.S. electorate. We are not some small fringe group.

Many of them may not agree on some things we preach, but 100% of them agree with us on homosexuality, intelligent design and the Bible.

The problem with most churches is that they don't actually teach what is in the Bible. That is where we shine.
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

Very well said! Don't worry, I'm well aware that most Americans are not as extreme or prejudiced as those on this site. If that's what heaven would be like, if such a thing existed, I think I must agree with you. What an awful place!

I don't believe in the flat earth. It's utter stupidity in the face of overwhelming proof. I suppose it doesn't bother me much that the writers of the Bible clearly thought it was. It still doesn't take away from the Message, except the parts I find objectionable.

I dont have too much wrong with religion. But when people try to hold on to the words exactly when there is so much overwhelming evidence against it i dont get it. I also watched sum of that letter from hell video crap. Wtf, just wtf? If people dont want to believe than leave us alone, instead of trying to scare people into your way of thinking.

I agree, the video is just sensationalist nonsense! Some people seem to be stuck in the Middle Ages when the burning of witches was all the rage and the threat of Hell was used by the Church to silence the masses. Back then there was no such things as freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc, but come on, this is the 21st century!!

I agree with you, friend. We don't have to follow the entire Bible anymore. We are free to pick what parts we want to because Jesus died.

Finally a reasonable believer! :-) I've never understood how people can think that the morals of 2000 years ago can still be exactly the same today. Back then it was perfectly acceptable for people who uttered the Lord's name to be stoned to death, which fortunately is not the case today, or everyone in this forum, including the extremists, would already have been sentenced to death! Clearly certain morals, such as kindness and compassion, are still relevant (in my opinion at least), but those are precisely the kind of morals that many people here have rejected in favour of threats and intimidation!
