Other planets do exist. You actually can see them in the sky, but due to their large distance away, they appear to be pinpricks of light yet they tend to be much brighter than the surrounding stars. The solar system is a vast and mostly empty space. In one were to scale down the Sun to the size of a bowling ball, the Earth (now the size of a pea) would be almost 100 feet away.

The Planets were named in the time of ancient Greece, about 1000 years before the birth of Jesus, when Judaism was a small religion. The Romans later renamed the planets by translating it to their gods (Greeks and Romans have the same gods, just with different names). The names had stuck before Constantine converted the Roman empire and Christianity dominated Europe.
