Re: Most accurate textbook on astronomy: The Holy Bible!

That the Holy Bible is the best book on astromony ever written comes as no surprise to me, of course. I've been Blessed to attend several Pastoral Retreats with Brother Hovind, who can talk all night long on the subject.

    Believe me.....

Amen! Friend, I'm still not sure why MY tax dollars are being spent on such frivolousness anyway. Every time an astronaut "discovers" something about astronomy, a True Christian™ is there with his finger on the Bible Verse that reveals where the LORD told us first. Why, not too long ago, in 1945, man discovered that stars give off signals. How much money was wasted on making a "discovery" that has been available in the Holy Bible (Job 38:7) this whole time?

That's not entirely true. Many books tell you who the author is. Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible (Ex 17:14; 24:4; 34:28; Num 33:2; Deut 31:9, 22, 24). Nehemiah wrote Nehemiah (Neh 1:1) and Isaiah wrote Isaiah (Is 1:1). Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes (Eccl 1:1). Paul identified himself in his letters to the churches (Rom 1:1; 1 Cor 1:1). Unless you're suggesting some of them were not who they claimed to be.

Some books were written by unknown authors, but ultimately we know the Author of the Bible is God.

2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

and not having any original copies
People place too much importance on having the original documents, yet the originals were evidently not important to God. Let's look at the story of Jeremiah. The original copy of the scroll of Jeremiah was brought to King Jehoiakin, who cut it up and burnt it (Jer 36:21-23). So Jeremiah had to rewrite his book from memory, with the help of the Holy Spirit (Jer 36:32; 2 Pet 1:21). This copy was destroyed when Seraiah threw it into the River Euphrates -- under Jeremiah's instruction (Jer 51:59-63). But we still have the book of Jeremiah today, so obviously Jeremiah wrote a "third original." God doesn't need originals to keep His Word pure. He promises to preserve His Word throughout all generations.

Ps 12:6-7 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

we find that the Bible is contradictory to itself in places
    Where? Name one contradiction.

contradictory to science and other places
Well, that just means science is wrong, if it's contradictory to the Bible.

and incorrect to some of historical findings.
You can't trust secular archaeology and history.

How do you know God created the universe?
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

There is no sufficient reason(s) for you to believe the Bible is true. When we go to investigate the Bible, not only do we have this problem about not knowing who the authors are, and not having any original copies, we find that the Bible is contradictory to itself in places, contradictory to science and other places, and incorrect to some of historical findings. There is no reason for you to believe the Bible is true. Quoting the Bible isn't going to get you anywhere because you haven't demonstrated why anyone should consider the Bible to be true or authoritative.

Ask Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, Edgar Mitchell, David Scott, John W. Young, Charles Duke, Eugene Cernan, Harrison Schmitt and many more astronauts who have gone further out than Luca Parmitanon. None of them have experienced drowning from this 'firmament'. You really do need to some research.

You can actually use evidence to come to a conclusion. You asked why the sky is blue, and the answer is this is just solar radiation reaching the earth's surface after having been scattered from the direct solar beam by molecules or suspension in the atmosphere. The atmosphere is the mixture of gas molecules and other materials surrounding the earth. The blue colour of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through.

I believe an astronaut should know all relevant facts about the universe before flying up there, don't you think?

You can ask the same question when you're on the Moon, Mars etc. Diffuse sky radiation. Ask Luca Parmitanon, he should know better by now!

  • Most accurate textbook on astronomy: The Holy Bible!

The most important part of an astronaut's equipment is a copy of the Holy Bible (KJV 1611)! In Genesis 1 God clearly tells us that it's full of water out there beyond the stars Why else would the sky be blue?

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
If you fly too high you will dip into the water. Why are todays astronauts kept in ignorance about these basic physical facts? One of them nearly drowned on tuesday when he plunged into the water above the firmament:

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — In one of the most harrowing spacewalks in decades, an astronaut had to rush back into the International Space Station on Tuesday after a mysterious water leak inside his helmet robbed him of the ability to speak or hear at times and could have caused him to choke or even drown.

Italian Luca Parmitano was reported to be fine after the dangerous episode, which might have been caused by an unprecedented leak in the cooling system of his suit. His spacewalking partner, American Christopher Cassidy, had to help him head inside after NASA quickly aborted the spacewalk.

    [...]

Spacewalking is dangerous already, noted flight director David Korth. Then on top of that, "go stick your head in a fishbowl and try to walk around. That's not anything that you take lightly," he said. "He did a great job of just keeping calm and cool" as the amount of water ominously increased.

    [...]

Between 1 and 1 1/2 liters of water leaked into his helmet and suit, NASA estimated.
