What exactly is the philosophical side of being a vampire? The ethical dilemmas thrown up by drinking other people's blood?

Chickens come from eggs, not the other way around.
That sounds dangerously Darwinist to me - surely the Good Lord created full-grown chickens for Adam and Eve to feast on first?

Why would a vampire -- an immortal being -- want to dress in clothing from one particular period in its centuries-long existence? Why not the free-love 60s? Are there no hippie vampires? (I think they're in Berkeley.) Also, why in the world would a parasite on humans want to call attention to itself by dressing in such a manner?

This makes no sense whatsoever. Why would they not just wear leech costumes? That's what vampires are, so that's how they should dress.

Ahh, so only SOME of your friends believe that they are immortal blood suckers. Gotcha.

The Blade novels are also fun pulp.

Thanx for the clarification. So it appears that the Vampire lifestyle is simply an aesthetic thing?

Being pleasantly odd is comendable, but some people take their fantasys and RPG hobbies just a LITTLE too seriously. Their's a fine line between loveable eccentricity and being nuttier than squirrel poo.

Anyone can pretend to be a nice and gentle person.
Even if they are truly evil and wicked freaks who only long to bury their teeth in your throat...
If you associate with them, one day you're just going to "disappear", like so many have before you!
It is a statistic fact that around 70% of everyone who goes missing here in America associated with "vampires".
Look it up if you don't believe me.

Open your eyes and realise the truth, friend, your "vampire friends" are not really your friends..
They're only waiting for the right moment to gut you and drink your blood.

Also, there's plenty of non-fiction vampire books:

And here's one you might (or might not) like :

    *Sigh* Think what you will.....

I happen to know two vampire lifestylers (yes, they do come out occasionally in daytime) and they are perfectly lovely people, always with something interesting to say. My parents have even met them, they think they're very nice if a little odd (then again, most of my friends are rather eccentric)

    Life is good

How would they know what vampires dress like, have they ever met a real one?
And name a single "non-fictionous" book about vampires you know about..

Some even enjoy role-playing. The blood drinking and killing you seem to be obsessed with is a very rare occurence in the lifestyle. Though some may have a 'blood fetish' and share blood with their lover during a sexual act. Maybe only 1 or 2 in the whole 'subculture' have the sick mind you associate with all of them.
No, all of them have it. Having a sick mind is the very essence of their "subculture". (sub as in underground, as vampires hate sunlight.)
But most of them simply hide this fact from you. Appropriately enough, they even have a quite-true name for this lie: "Masquerade".
These freaks are playing you for a stupid fool, and you fall for it.

Now for my sinful posting of attractive (fictional) undead men and women :p :
The WHAT? You mean the purely fictionous crap surrounding them?
They want to be vampires because they want to drink blood and kill children, and that's all there is to it.

These people sleep in coffins, drink blood, kidnap children, and cut themselves and others with sharp objects to gorge on blood!
And you say they are normal and only interested in a "philosophical" side of things?
    Get real, heathen.

These people are almost as evil as homersexuals, so don't even dare to try to defend them or their lifestyles, calling them "normal".
