Wonderful post, Sister Mary. Once I was in a coffee shop and overheard a man at another table say, "No good deed goes unpunished."

The nasty post by this lady reminded me how little praise we receive for our good deeds here at Landover Baptist. We toil away pointing out the sins of others, saving them from an eternity in fire and what do we get? We get called bad names, that's what.

I know we must continue on with our mission. We need to remain happy warriors, quoting the Bible, pointing our fingers at sinners and calling out "shame".
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

And don't forget what Jesus said:

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 10:22

You wonderful True Christians are so loving and patient with these heathens - and truth be told, with me as well. I enjoy sitting at your feet and gathering pearls of wisdom from your fingertips.
Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

I think I understand that. Works are the result of faith.

Faith is like the flame. Works are the light cast on the table.

If the flame is burning there will light or, conversely, if you can see the light you know the candle is lit.

If there is no light you know there is no flame, unless someone's covered it up but that concept was rejected by Jesus as an absurdity.

Mark 4:21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

The real problem for Lutherans however must be the multitude of internal sects. Quite apart from churches of Sweden or Denmark there are squabbling synods even within single countries such as America or Australia and whatever happens in Germany can scarcely deviate altogether from Luther's teaching. He was a particularly unpleasant person, not Christ like at all whether assessed by the lumens of his flame or the darkness of his works. Substituting a slightly different set of lies for the lies of popes is not really an achievement. But perhaps I've misunderstood?
