WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE WAY GOTHS DRESS

The Bible instructs us to dress modestly (1 Timothy 2:9). One aspect of dressing modestly is making sure everything that should be covered by clothing is adequately covered.

However, another aspect to modesty is not drawing attention to yourself. People who dress modestly dress in such a way that they do not draw attention to themselves. This is something Goths who foolishly think they can call themselves Christian should think long and hard about.

The Old Testament law also commanded "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD" (Leviticus 19:28).

Also "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).

In relation to the way you dress, and also tattoos and body piercings, ask yourself if you can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use the particular activity or style of clothing for His own good purposes?

An important Scriptural principle of the Bible is that we must conduct every act of our lives so that it pleases God.


"For whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23).


We need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. Although 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 does not directly apply to tattoos or body piercings, it does give us a principle,

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. If our bodies belong to God, we should make sure we have His clear "permission" before we "mark it up" with tattoos or body piercings.

The Bible also condems cross-dressing.


Deuteronomy 22:5 says 'The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.'

An abomination to God? Wow! That must mean he doesn't like it very much? What do you think?

See, this is another reason why God hates Goths so much. He finds it quite repulive that grown men wear lipstick and dress like sick side-show freaks. And by this passage, God is not only condemning Goths, but all Lesbians and feminists too. Glory!

Well, Mr. Green,

I understand what you mean and it's of course okay to think like this.
But, is it true that my body is not my own, but it belongs to God? (At this point I really don't know what the Bible says). I always thought he gave it to me and now it's up to me to look after it.

And no, I don't neither myself nor my body. I just like clothing like a goth, even if I seem to look like a vampire or a corpse, if you say so.

I already read a lot of comments people here postet as answers to other people who think as liberals as I do. Mostly the answers where a bit rude and polemic. I think it would easyer to talk about all this or may even to convince people of one's own opinion, if one stays a little bit more calmed down....

I really hope I didn't make you laugh, as you say. I just want to talk about all this, because religion is also a very important thing for me. I'm still searching the right way, but I'm sure at the moment I'm not totally wrong.

Dear Victory,

no problem, maybe it's because of my avatar, I wear a lot of make up, so one may can't see my gender.

Well, it's not my friends who want me to be like this. It was my own choice. Of course it's a problem, as there are many people who have predjudices, but that can't be a reason for me not being myself. And well, I just am a goth, that's me, and maybe that's the way God wants me to be, as I alrady felt like this since I was a child.
I have as many goth friends as I have not goth friends and everyone accepts me, no one has fear.
It's okay if we goths have to explain what we really are. It's a problem that most people think satanism is the same, but what can I do to convince you, that this is just not the same?
I would be very unhappy if I couldn't stay the person I am, and this is just being a goth. Many people even say that I got a pretty lighter and happier person since I am a goth, because now I can be myself and not just what other people want me to be.

And yes, everyone here is true, if he or she says gothic is not just a style. Well, it's at first a style, but of course also a kind of lifestyle. It's just a certain feeling which has a lot to do with romantic 18th and 19th century.

may I ask you, do you know any goth who did these bad sins? This is not a rhethoric question, I'm really interested in this.

How can you be so sure I do all the things you say? What can I do to make sure it's not the way you think? In the end it's just my look that makes you think like this. But God can watch into my heart and he knows I'm no sinner.
What makes you think I worship Lucifer? I pray to the same God you pray to.
You may tell me about the experiences you made with peaople you call goths. Was it really that bad? If yes, I'm ashamed what stupid people do who call themselves the same I do.
I think God doesn't care about my look, he doesn't care about my haircolour, about my piercings and whatever, the only thing he's interested in is my behaviour, not my outward appearance, isn't it true?

Your are right, of course no one can know what one's friends do, if oneself is not there. But I trust my friends, I know them very well, and if they would do these bad things, one day I'd notice this.
Do you know what all your friends so when you are not there?

And there is another point you are right with:
I do have black painted walls in my apartment. But does this immediatly mean that I rape cats or eat babies? Black is just a colour, nothing more. Even nuns and preachers wear black clothes, as same as judges at court. And last but not least black painted walls get fashionable at people who are no goths, too.
I have black painted walls, but on these black walls there hang a lot of crosses and angles who protect me.
Yet nothing bad happended and I love my cats, I won't eat them

Goths, satanists...same thing. Those are just two different words for the same set of people. Let me ask you a question Mr. Friendoven...you say you have friends who are goths and they don't do any of these things. How do you know what they're doing in their dark bedrooms when you're not around? I've often heard the reason they paint their walls black is so their parents won't notice the blood splatters. Are these really the kind of people you want to associate yourself with?

Unfortunately there are a very frew stupid people, who actually are satanists, NOT GOTHS!!!, who may do things like these, but we have nothing to do with that. It's so sad, that everybody thinks, we also act like this, only because there are such a few stupid people who may do. I think the media is a big problem. They call the people who get into school with guns goths. Why? I don't even know only one case of a massacre, where one of these people where really goths. The media just often calls theme goths. I swear, in Germany or all over Europe, gothic means something totally different. And problably for the most of the american goths, too.
It's not necessarry that everybody here starts loving us, it's okay if some people don't like me being a goth, but it's not okay to treat people who just try to show there opinion in a kind way, like criminals, which we are not.
