It isn't necessary to inflict pain on a child in order to teach him/her a lesson. Revoking privileges works just as well.

Depends on the child. Inflicting pain definately works from time to time. A good spanking never does any harm, but it does teach the child a lesson that doing wrong has painful consequences, and so their wrong-doing will lessen and eventually cease.

My folks just grounded me and took away all my privileges when I was a kid and misbehaved. Not being able to hang out or talk on the phone with my friends, not being able to watch tv or play my stereo - even a week seemed like an eternity. The only thing a child learns by being hit is that hitting is an appropriate response to anything anyone else does that you don't like.

Or maybe the child learns that if they do bad things, it winds up hurting them in the end (the rear end).

Nonsense, a child learns respect by this method of punishment. Whenever they want to do something bad again they remember the pain of the last time and decide against it. It works where most other punishments fail!

While her goals are admirable, she needs to stop being so soft on the child in my opinion. I'm going to guess that they attend some feelgood liebral false Christian church. Give that child the beating of her life, and then keep doing so until you see a major improvement. It worked when my father did that with me. Glory!!

Mom makes daughter wear her offenses

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - A Tennessee mother fed up with her daughter's misbehavior took an unusual tack in for latest punishment, making her stand on a busy street corner with an attention-getting sign.

Tashara Wilkins, 13, held a sign Sunday reading, "I don't obey my parents, I'm a liar. I steal from my mom. I have a bad attitude."

"All other resources haven't worked, so I'm making her be publicly humiliated today," mother Cherie Wilkins told WMC-TV in Memphis. "I hope this works for her. I love my child. ... I could be beating her to death, but I'm not."

She said her daughter's bad attitude Sunday morning led to the public display.

Tashara said having to wear her offenses was eye-opening.

"It might even work," she said. "I'm gonna start (behaving better) because I don't want to be standing out here with everybody looking at me like I'm crazy with this sign."

The mother said her daughter would go to church Tuesday night wearing the sign.
