  • Dolls = idolatry?

My wife wants to make a doll for the coming arrival. She plans to make it in the form of a person. i am concerned if this is right or if it is some form of idolatry. Could someone advise me on this please? i don't want this happy occasion to be cause for offending the Lord.

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Do you plan to burn the newborn child on an altar set before the doll?

Or were you thinking of burning the doll upon an altar?

    Details help.

Neither. It is to be a toy for the child.

Don't make a doll that looks like Mary!!!

It would be foul to endorse Catholicism.

Seems to me that dolls promote homosexuality. If it's a boy it's just wrong, if it's a girl why are you giving her toys?

Even things labeled 'Action Figures' promote homosexuality.

            Grotesque. Pedophilia. Promoting Mental Disorder.

            Demonic. Nazi. Communistic.

To top it off, the majority of action figures come from 'Super Heroes', which we all know as WITCHES. They get their powers not from God, but from Satan.
Also, they wear tights and womens clothing in general.
            Horrendous!

A doll like this for a girl would be OK. It would foster learning too.

It's wrong to give girls toys? Even ones that teach them how to be good mothers and wives in the future?

Well she will make a doll in case it is a girl and I will carve a child size tool set in case it's a boy. Whichever toy is unneeded for this one can be saved for a future child.

As a child I had a toy kitchenette, a toy ironing board, a toy vacuum cleaner. Sure as I got older these were replaced by the real thing, but I thought it was fun to 'vacuum' with mommy.

I also had a Barbie that I sewed clothes for and baby dolls that I mothered. Trust me it was much easier than the times I tried to put a dress on the cat.

I'm sort of sad that I never had a daughter to pass such things on to.

                    Re: Dolls = idolatry?

                    So the answer would be---
Toys related to the girl's future (as a Christian wife) only.
As for boys, nothing until they are older and then you will only get them a football and such.

Well as babies, they had stuffed toys like a football and such, well until the dogs, destuffed them anyway.

As they got older, they got Tonka trucks (it's so hard to find the old good ones) toy tools, brain games (shapes and such), then toy guns and more toy tools. Things that will teach them how to be men.

I don't think a doll is appropriate for a boy, it could lead him into homerism.

                        Re: Dolls = idolatry?

I agree if it's a girl give her a baby doll or some form of toy that will make her a beter mother in the end. But if it's a boy why not make a doll in the shape of the bible? That would certainly not offend the lord.
                        Best of luck.

Good point, but if this little child is unable to read yet, then promoting reading the bible when he gets older with a cuddlely soft verson that he can grow to love.. then he will also grow to love the real thing or at least that is my opinion.

                              Re: Dolls = idolatry?

The real issue here is whether any doll is a form of idolatry.

Look closely at the word: i- dol -atry. All that is missing is one "l".

While most people will agree that a child can benefit from having a toy or two in their early years, it may be best to err on the side of caution and eliminate dolls, stuffed animals or anything that could be potentially worshipped by false religion-types. Do NOT give your child a tree, for Jesus's sweet sake!

Trees are all the vogue among false religion worshippers these days.

I agree that scaled down versions of the tools and implements that will be required for use in later life in order to fulfil appropriate gender roles are a good toy choice.

Girls, as it has been noted, can be given kitchen items. In order to teach them to carry and diaper a baby properly, they can be given canned goods instead of dolls to which they may form an unhealthy connection.

Boys will certainly need to play with tiny hammers and saws and small switches so that they can learn to beat their wives with kind and caring precision. If they don't learn young, they may be ham-fisted about it when the time comes.

As babies begin to crawl and explore their enviroment, please remember to take care regarding electrical outlets. Those are "female" parts that flaunt their gaping slits in order to beckon "male" prongs into plugging themselves in for the sake of "turning on" an appliance. A Godly home must keep such activity away from young eyes.

This all the advice that I can currently recall on raising children. For further questions, do not hesitate to contact me at any time as I have no children to bother me when I am expounding upon my expertise.

                              Wisely Yours,
